What a morning! We where covered in deer from first light until 9:45! I don’t know why I waited so long to get into archery hunting there’s nothing like it. We got down at 10 and the buck, a small 4 pointer was dead only 40 yards from where he shot it. It was indeed a high and back shot. Dummy me didn’t check to see if it hit vitals but their was blood everywhere. He was down on himself for a moment when he shot it only because he knows there is a big one in the area that we are chasing. We told him to knock that off and be proud of the choice he made. In the end he was happy and we got a fair amount of making fun of him in while gutting the deer because the arrow caught stomach and ripped it open. We wanted to see him puke. Lol. The last hour and a half has been about as much fun as one could have with their clothes still on! Been surrounded by deer. None of which gave me a shot but the young hunter I’m with has a small buck down. He hit a little high and a little back but it was pumping blood and we saw it lay down. I ended up having 2 doe come by around 4 then Had a fawn come by at 20 yards. A while later another doe came by but no shot offered. Just after 6 a beautiful 8 came to within 40 yards. He ended up busting me after a 15 min standoff. It was a great evening hunt. I was able to get into shooting position on three attempts without getting busted until that buck won after 15 min. Yesterday’s evening hunt was miserable. On and off rain with a couple of downpours mixed in. The weather forecast was completely wrong. I would have stayed in if I knew that was going to be the weather. For this morning I’m giving this stand one last sit before giving it a break. Cameras are showing pretty consistent doe movement in the morning. Just about every other day. They didn’t come by yesterday so I’m hoping today. I’m in and settled with 30 min before sunrise. Oh for sure. He was my first big buck and he deserved to be honored and put on my wall. Full mounts where not in the cards for the other 2 for 2 reasons. 1. I’m truly not a deer mount kind of person 2. Spending $1,000 would not be financially responsible for me. I did however pay to have a nice Euro mount done and selected some nice skull hangers for them. 1. Currently resides in my daughters room as that is “her” deer and the other one patiently awaits for its spot on the wall. I will say I 100% get your point. Even before my big one I started to drift towards bigger bucks. 1 for the challenge and 2. Because I do like to see bigger ones in the woods and the only way to do that is to pass on the smaller ones. I just wanted to point out that your statement about a bucks size isn’t always true. I have one wall hanger. Since him I’ve killed 2 much much smaller ones than him. They both have a better story that I’d rather share around a campfire than how I got “the big one on the wall”. So for me it’s not about the size more about the story. Now I won’t lie I’m not out looking to kill any buck that walks by because I truly like to see them get bigger but if a small one fits my situation I’ll gladly shoot and tell the story for all to hear. I’ve been in the stand since 6:30am. I was able to get the umbrella up just in time before the rain came. It was steady for about 30-45 min but has since stopped. Now it’s just the constant dripping from the trees. I’ve seen 3 doe all 80ish yards away at three separate times. The trail camera is showing some nice bucks moving around in the light but mostly from 3pm on. I’ll hunt until around 11 then go run some errands before sitting in the same spot for the evening. I found where it says No Aircraft of any kind so that would be drones as well

I just looked on the DEC website and it mentions nothing about any illegal use of electronic devices just the usual no lights or lasers. I thought I had heard about the no drone thing but I couldn't find that either. I am going to keep looking because I honestly thought NYS allowed the use of two way radios and other forms of communication.

I love all day sits but on day one when its light for 12+ hours that's hardcore! I wont start all day sits until mid to late October.
