  1. On my way back to the farm, saw this nice 8 out for a stroll
  2. Up in a great stand for the evening sit. Haven’t sat this one since the season before last. This one is 21 ft up in a clump maple tree. Ahead of me is a point that sticks out into a bean field, to my right is a travel corridor, behind me and to the left are bedding areas and mixed hardwoods. Tons of fresh sign here.
  3. Got out of the stand about 10. Took a walk through the woods to swap cam cards. Walked up on a big doe bedded near one of the trails. Got to 20, waited for her to stand. She stood up but I couldn’t get a shot at the vitals. She walked away, never knowing I was there. Found some car hood sized scrapes near one of my favorite stands so I hung a scrape dripper and slipped out. I’ll be back there this afternoon as long as it’s not raining much.
  4. Just had a flock of turkeys about 70 yards away in the woods behind me. I was hoping they would come up one of the trails that goes by me but no such luck.
  5. Young buck in the field about 150 out. Come on big boys!
  6. Got into my stand a bit later than I wanted. I tried to get back to the stand I was planning for but I’d need waders to get to it right now. Hopped into a different stand so we will see what happens. Already saw 4 doe out in the field about 300 yards away.
  7. I ended up having a spike and doe come in, I wanted to take the doe but she skirted my shooting lanes. Heard a ton of chasing and crashing in the bedding area north of where I was. There were a ton of deer out in the field when I left. I would say it was a pretty good sit. I looked through my trail camera card and not a lot of action in that spot over the last week. I’ll be sitting a different spot in the morning. Gonna try a great rut spot that I haven’t sat in 2 years.
  8. Just had 2 nice toms go by just out of range
  9. Just watched a big 8 cross the bean field and disappear into the woods about 150 yards behind me. Threw a couple grunts his way. No reaction. His nose was to the ground
  10. Just got in the stand. Saw 7 scrapes freshly opened up on my walk in! Ran a drag of estrous scent and put out a couple of wicks. Hopefully I see some good action!
  11. The percentages of a deer dropping right there on a high shoulder shot from a rifle are much higher than a deer that’s double lunged with a bow. The few times I’ve had to track deer that I shot with a gun were when I double lunged them. That’s why I don’t do that anymore. High shoulder and they do t go far. I e had to do some serious tracking from shooting deer with my bow. Even a double lung and top of the heart shot. I just prefer to play the odds. I have no problems filling the freezer.
  12. Lol I don’t hunt at home. I hunt a few farms about 10 mins from me. I’ll still have that plus the new place we are in the process of buying has 15 acres, so I’ll be doing some hunting there next year.
  13. Just looked out back. 5 deer out in the pasture behind our place. They are moving. Should be a good evening sit.
  14. Rain just stopped out here. Good timing too, I just got back with a load of mulch to pretty up the front of the house. Had to get that done so our realtor can come take pics tomorrow and get our house listed.
  15. It’s not actually all that much worse than it was in my 20s. I’ve always had a pretty good widows peak. That’s why I never used to spike my hair back when that was popular. Lol now the bit of thinning i have in the back, that’s fairly recent haha
  16. Rested my crossbow is good to 50 with the scope on it. You can’t see enough to hold over at 60. I’d have to zero it at probably 60 or 70 to get 100 out of it. Fine for targets but not so much for hunting. Target shooting is irrelevant as far as hunting goes.
  17. I have no issues with snow. Rain like this will keep me out of the stand during bow. Too big of a chance on losing a blood trail.
  18. Well I’m off today and still sitting on the couch. It’s been raining since I woke up at 5. The only damn band of rain in the state is running directly across my area. The weather has not been very cooperative this season so far.
  19. Sure with a lead sled or other bench rest setup. Do you hunt with setup like that? Even with a rifle? I could put my compound on a hooter shooter and do the same thing.
  20. They have been developing modern crossbow technology since the 50s. Compound crossbows came along in the 60s. They are not much younger than vertical compound bows. Crossbow hunting regulations are as old as Wyoming’s archery season. Other states started allowing them in the 70s. I wouldn’t say they are anything new.
  21. I hunt with both and am for full inclusion.
  22. Evenings for me. Usually between 3 and dusk. Mornings are good too, but I’ve taken more on evening sits. Ive taken quite a few mid day as well, but almost all of those have been still hunting or during drives.
