  1. Yep. 5 if you include the either sex tag. I got less deer each year due to the deer changing their patterns either caused by them figuring out my stand being there equals certain death, or my neighbors have caught on and put more pressure on them. Its probably a combo. Im not hunting that stand this year, time to adjust and I have the perfect setup in mind. I plan on filling a few tags this year lol.
  2. Its nice. I posted a pic on the old site, Ill see if I cant dig it up.
  3. I like how the NYB rep starts off by saying that they "represent all bowhunters in NY". That statement is just a prelude to a bunch of obvious nonsense. I also like how a rep for an organization that is supposed to be promoting and protecting hunting, purposely misconstrues the name of the PSE x-bow to emphasize the word "assault". Wow, way to champion the anti-hunter sentiment and attitude. Ill be writing letter #3 to my state reps, with references to this video and a link to it.
  4. I ran across this on another forum, actually from an old Empire member and thought Id pass it on here... http://www.nysenate.gov/event/2010/jun/08/environmental-conservation-meeting notable segments... "- NY bowhunters had there guy spewing his usual BS at 10:43 and stated that currently there are already laws in effect for handicapped individuals to use a crossbow in ny, what a laugh. then he brings up the PSE tach-10 and how this thing is built on a tactical stock and is deadly to 100 yds, then states how it takes no skill to shoot a crossbow etc, etc. - at 23:27 you have a guy/committee speaker who speaks about how the crossbow is not a bow and a poachers weapon and is more like a rifle and will shoot 100 yds, and in my amazment there wasn't a single person there to dispute this complete and total hogwash? The committee head then stops him and goes on to say that there is a huge show of support for the crossbow in NY with e-mails, calls and letters at record amount and more letters and e-mails in support of this than any other bill they are currently viewing."
  5. Nope. Im going to spend the extra money and move over to Hoyt, their bows are just plain reliable and their service is unbelievable. I know many guys that shoot them. Theres a nice 09 Turbohawk on Craigslist right now for $450 all set up. Tempting....
  6. I have had 4 DMPs every year for the last 3 years. One year I tagged out, the second year I used half of them and last year I had a tag sandwich.
  7. Doc, there is nothing wrong with the TC Encore. The basic design has been around for a long long time and has always been reliable. My next rifle will be an Encore, and Im planning on setting it up for 2 rifle calibers and a ML. Really, all I have to do is get barrels and a stock to change my handgun over to a rifle or ML. Many guys underestimate them because they are single shot guns. How many shots do you really need?
  8. I started out bowhunting just to extend my season. The first season out, I was sitting in my stand when deer started walking in. The next thing I knew, I had 30 deer around me, some within 10 yards. The bad part was that they all seemed to be looking at me (maybe that was my imagination) and I never could get my bow up or attempt a shot, but it got me hooked for life. Now I bow hunt because I love getting that close to deer and it is a great challenge.
  9. Stay away from velcro, I have 2 velcro releases and hate both of them, they just dont feel as good as a buckle type, plus they are bulkier. I like Tru Ball releases the best but, Tru-Fires arent bad either. Those are the only 2 brands I have used, so I cant give an opinion on any others.
  10. Usually I shoot most of the year, except when its just plain frigid in Jan thru early March. I shoot mixed distances between 10 and 60 yards. Im pretty good out to 50, 60 gives me trouble because I just dont shoot it much and I only shoot a 3 pin site. I plan on getting a 4 pin on my next setup. I shoot both in my back yard and at a range a few miles from my place where they have a great 3D setup with an elevated shooting tower and the whole 9.
  11. I would start getting out in the back yard and shooting my bow if it wasnt still at the shop for warranty work. Its been there for months waiting on PSE to send parts. I dont think Ill be buying PSE again after this. Warranty service is a big issue for me when I consider purchasing things.
  12. 260 does a great job on deer, the biggest issue with that caliber is the lack of variety in rounds. Recoil is pretty low and range/accuracy is excellent though. Thats what I shoot in my handgun and the recoil isnt that bad (for a handgun that is lol).
  13. I think Doc is on to something. I would work the outline of the state in there and add a couple more, different animals rather than just deer. Personally, Id get rid of the camo letters and stick with something nice and easy to read for everyone. Just my 2 cents.
  14. LOL, 10 to 1 that Rob just got tired of running it or it wasnt paying for itself. I emailed him a few weeks after it went down, but havent heard anything back. Ive talked to Rob a bunch of times through email, etc in the past. I just hope nothing bad happened to him. If you want this site to pick up more attention, buy the domain name empirehunting.com and point it to this site. Its in a transitional stage right now, but you can try and reserve it for when it becomes fully available.
  15. Well, I found my way here, hopefully some of the other guys do too.
