  1. In my stand. Put my new cam up on a scrape on my way in. Already sweating a little. Damn temps.
  2. I picked one of these cams up on Black Friday in a kit with the rechargable battery pack and SD card. I have another one of the battery packs, which was already charged, so I put the charger on the new one as started to mess with the cam. Like every WGI cam Ive had or messed with, the setup is very simple, and took about 3 mins to get set. The only thing I dont like about the cam so far,is theres no easy way to put a lock on it. Ill be figuring out how to do that and how to put an adjustable strap on there because I hate the bungee cords. I am going to put it out today and start testing it. Results and modifications to follow....
  3. John, congrats to your brother! I saw nada last evening. Up and getting ready to head out in a bit.
  4. In my stand at my father's. Gonna see what happens....
  5. My sneak turned up nothing this time. Gotta do some shopping. Back in the woods later.
  6. Going to put a stalk on a group of does that I have bumped from the same spot a few times so far. Waiting by the truck for it to get light out so I can hopefully see them before they run out. The other day I was witbin 20 yards before they saw me, but it was dark.
  7. Quartering to or away, with a gun? Id take either. Broadside is ideal though.
  8. I was out yesterday, hunted out of my stand for the morning then went out and did some drives with a group of guys. We saw a few deer, but they werent playing along well, and we didnt put anything on the ground. It was still a great day though.
  9. Im pretty sure, in my area, the main chase phase happened the week or week and a half before the southern gun opener. Peak breeding is just wrapping up, then we will see the secondary rut start kicking in. Right now the scrapes are dead and covered by leaves around here for the most part. They may start opening back up again soon.
  10. Im with wdswtr, my license is the least expensive part of hunting for me. I like saving here and there like anyone else, but Im not going to go sit in some 2 or 3 night class to save a few bucks on my license. My time is worth more to me than that.
  11. The way you put up a lifeline witha hang on stand is by using a linemans belt attached to your safety harness. For a ladder stand, you got me lol.
  12. For my climber, Im strapped to the tree at all times. Hang ons, prussic for the climb up and down and strapped to the tree while in it. Ladder stands, strapped in once Im up. Havent figured a way to use a lifeline with a ladder stand yet that would actually not injure you almost as much as falling without it. I love my 2 person ladder stand, and plan on picking up a couple more for next season, but for most spots, I have fallen in love with hang ons. The ability to use a linemans belt to set them up, and easy use of the prussic for the regular climb up and down just make them the safest option in my eyes. Second to that would be my climber. Just remember, with a climber, keep the two sections tied together, preferably with an easily adjustable length strap, so the foot section cant possibly fall far enough to be out of reach for your feet. Ive had mine slip a couple of times this year, and if I didnt have that strap, I might have been sitting on my top rail for a while, or fallen and been hanging from my harness. Safety first.
  13. I have a deer cart and it works great, just make sure the one you get has large enough wheels to get over rocks, sticks, etc. A plastic sled will make it easier too.
  14. By using that line of thinking, you should be able to bush hog a field of corn and then rake it all into a pile 50 yards from your stand? How is that any different from bringing in a truck load of corn and piling it 50 yards from your stand just because theres a corn field a mile down the road? Just because I have 4 apple trees near my stand, I should be able to keep replenishing the apples on the ground under them through the whole winter, just because they were there early in the fall? Maybe I should be able to put a 100lb salt block in front of my stand just because the farmer up the road has one for his cows? All of that is just baiting. Where do you draw the line once you legalize it? No feeders? No store bought products? Yeah right, they have a hard enough time enforcing the current law of no baiting as it is. If you want to be able to bait, then call your reps, send in letters, etc and try to get it legalized.
  15. Came out for a bite, then gonna go do a couple of slow drives with the other guys.
  16. Beautiful morning. Watching 5 doe cross a hay field on the neighboring farm. Hopefully the head this way.
  17. I hear ya. Gman has some good advice there. If you put cams on travel routes to and from food sources, youre gonna get most of the deer on cam. One thing you can do to legally attract deer is to top some trees and leave the tops laying in a small area. They will feed on the more tender, smaller branches. Good luck and make sure to post up some of those trail cam photos in the trail cam section!
  18. Im getting ready to go. Would have had a doe yesterday if I had followed my rule of hunting my way in once its light out. Gonna see what today brings...
  19. I got chased out of my stand by a foot of water and it was still rising. Sucks tearing the climber down while standing in water higher than your boots. All of my stuff is soaked, so Im staying in for the evening. Will dry my stuff and get back at it tomorrow morning. Didnt see anything after the first 3 this morning.
  20. In my tree, light rain, sloppy ground. Bumped 3 on tbe way in.
  21. The wet leaves are going to work perfect for me. The spot I was in yesterday is the spot Ill be in today, and it was noisy getting in yesterday. Gonna be dead silent today.
  22. If he gets the width that alot of them here seem to, he should def make B&C next year.
