Congrats! -
Got out of the stand a while ago and took a very slow walk through the swamp. Standing around having a snack now. Seen zilch so far.
-
Congrats!

Think ive heard more shooting today than Saturday. Havent seen anything yet.

Deer cant sweat and they have thick coats now, so temps above 45 to 50 cause them to bed and stay put. The only thing that gets them up is pressure, guys walking the woods.

In my stand early today. Put a film canister of cotton balls and Pure Heat out in the cut corn field. Breeze will blow it past my stand and into the standing corn. Hopefully it works. Little bit of snow coming down, perfect deer day.

Thats $10 cheaper than the other quote I had and I dont have to ship. Ill be keeping it in mind, and unless I find someone closer, youll be hearing from me.

Better go read the regs, because you are incorrect. -
Awesome buck, great rack and a double throat patch. Very cool. Congrats to your buddy!

Q: Is it legal to use decoys and electronic calls to hunt deer? A: Both decoys and electronic calls are legal to use for deer hunting in NY. You should exercise caution when transporting a deer decoy to and from the locations in the field. Some hunters wrap a strip of blaze orange material around the decoy when carrying it. Almost at the bottom of the page here: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8310.html Like I said, 100% legal.

Congrats to him.

I was outside most of the day today hanging Christmas lights, doing general cleanup of the yard and cleaning out gutters. Heard maybe 10 series of shots. Counted the vehicles parked at the state land on my way to drop my daughter off @ 4:30, there were 6. I think the warm temps and wind had the deer in their beds for alot of the day today. Temps are going back down and will top out at 41 for my area tomorrow, very light winds as well. Should be a great day tomorrow. Winds out of the NE too, gonna take a trip up to a farm I have been saving for a N NE wind. Seen some great bucks up there through binos before season.

Go to the very first post on the thread and see what its about.

Very cool. I too, am interested in your prices, as I have a skull in the freezer right now waiting to feed someones beetles. Wyoming county isnt far from me.

Lots of possible causes of this. How exactly do you have it setup? Pointing across a trail? If so, thats the problem. Angle it down the trail one way or the other, that way, even if its a slow trigger speed cam, the deer will be in frame for longer and youll have a better chance at getting it. What height is it at? If its too high, you can miss passing deer. Try hanging it 3 to 4 feet high with a slight downward angle. If its a cheap, or otherwise slow trigger speed cam, try putting it on a possible feeding area or scrape. The deer will spend more time at those types of spots, which keeps them in frame for longer.

Could it have been the people that used to own the place? Ive heard of that kind of thing happening, especially if the property was foreclosed upon or maybe it was friends or family of the previous owners that were not happy about the sale of the place? Sounds like some nice heavy gates at the entrances are in order.

Yepper. I believe they changed the regs 2 or 3 years ago. Im pretty sure they used to be illegal for deer.

I just came back in from getting the paper (not able to hunt today), and when I was crossing the road, I looked down toward the state land. Yesterday there were some trucks parked on the side of the road down there, today, nothing. Now I cant see the main parking lot from here, as its on another road, but my guess would be theres only a few guys up there this morning.

My e-caller has a remote, and Ive thought about using to draw a buck in with a grunt, and doing it at a distance from me so that the buck's attention is not directed at my location. Problem is, I dont think the battery would last all day long, and the unit may time out and shut off before I need to use it. I have to experiment with it first. Last year I had a huge buck come out into the field that my stand was on, and after 2 grunts, he came in on a string. Problem was, he came in to my downwind side, on a trail behind my stand. When I tried to draw my bow, I had problems due to my safety strap, and bumped the riser of the bow on the stand, which scared the buck off. Now, if I would have had that caller, about 30 yards upwind of me, in the same hedgerow, that buck would have probably responded to it and tried to wind it, which would have put him directly in front of me. I can definitely see the advantage to them.
