  1. Yup, NYC makes it tough. But there are ranges in the City & the city is not limited to Manhattan. I say this because many folks forget about Queens, SI, Bx & BK. Bottom line, you can't take your pistol out of 5 Boros. That's it. Only exception is hunting & u need the Hunter Auth card. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Be much easier via upstate than going through the NYPD. I don't have that luxury of having a house upstate, but one day I shall! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Yup. It's BS but that's life in the big city! I'm just happy to own guns. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. With NYC pistol permit - premises only - you can shoot at any gun range in NYC only. That's it. Not LI or Westchester. You can take your Pistol hunting during gun season, only if you have a "hunter authorization" card. I got my HA card in 1 PP after showing them my pistol permit & NY hunting tag for last season. Was very easy to get. But I've been told that if you try to get HA without the hunting tag, forget about it. Hope this helps.
  5. that is a great idea Sailing. However, as originally posted, really looking to find some land I can call my own via lease for the season.
  6. I have my 2nd GSP & live in NYC in apartment. My first one lived for 12 years, 3 months. My back yard is Central Park. In my experience as long as the GSP gets a strong work out in the morning & burns that energy, they are lap dogs the rest of the day. Once they hit 9-10, things start to finally slow down. Amazing dogs, but you better be the alpha because they can be stubborn.
  7. If you have a pistol in NYC you better have an NYC Pistol permit. You can apply for carry, but unless you are a politician, movie star or some VIP you are not getting any carry permit, no way no how. I live in NYC & have a pistol permit for premises only. I will take what I can get. I can take my .357 outside my premises only to target shoot or go hunting during gun season. In order to take your pistol outside the city for hunting, you must get a hunting authorization card from 1 pp. As said before, you can't take your pistol during bow season, but my 357 is always at my side. Good luck with getting your pistol permit in NYC because it is extremely tedious and you best not have any blemishes, not even speeding tickets, because that will cause you problems with getting your pistol. Yes - it's a pain the ass to own guns in NYC, but it is what it is. Glad to say that I just got another Purchase Authorization to get my second pistol - getting a glock 19. In NYC you have to get an authorization from NYPD to get a pistol, not rifle. So for a city dude, living in bleeding heart liberal Hilary country, I got myself a nice stash of weapons and couldn't be happier. Cheers
  8. Unfortunately, my Remington 700 30-06 was part of the recall. My .243 was not. The good news is that the turn around was only 3 weeks and they replaced the trigger. The bad news is I have to get the scope back on & dial it in... Anyway - it was worth the aggravation because it's a great rifle and better to be safe than sorry......
  9. Would love to hunt in Putnam but very tough to find land to lease.
  10. Tired of hunting with outfitters and not getting any blood. Looking to get a nice group of guys from "downstate" & lease at minimum 150 acres upstate. My friend and I already have leads to some land @ 3 hours from city. Thanks
  11. I'm from the City. Not many hunters here or those willing to admit it - lol. Putnam county, westchester is your best bet, but I've also hunted in Medford Long Island which is @ an hour away. if you move to city, make sure you register your guns because you will have a serious problem with the NYPD. cheers
  12. This year I had the opportunity to harvest a few doe but no buck. So no blood. But on the positive side I hunted with my 16 year old 5x & glad he chose to spend quality time with his old man rather than hang with friends & watch TV or who knows. i know for sure next season there wil be more meat in the freezer but again the memories I have with my son 20 feet up in the stand are more valuable than zero harvest....
  13. This past weekend only buck harvested in my group was by a rookie who never even hunted before & didn't even own a gun. He shot a nice buck @ 200 yards with a 243. He actually thought he missed... lol Not bad for 1st timer. The next day he even saw a yote @ 30 yards and missed. lucky SOB! meanwhile my son & I saw zip. saturday & Sunday - 4F - weather just a bit challenging, to say the least.

    Rut!

Heading back to Steuben Thursday! Taking the day off & don't care! Something tells me, I'm getting some blood on my hands. At least I hope!
  15. Where I live in NYC - 95% are voting for that sick liar. Liberal elites, effeminate men and minorities want Obama's utopian policies to remain in effect for another 4 years. Unfortunately it seems she will win, but you never how one votes behind the curtain.
  16. In NY - Remmy 30-06 & side arm S & W 357 magnum In Illinois - Pike County - Savage 220 but for now --- hoping my PSE Drive LT does the job on 11/11 in Steuben! Cheers
  17. I passed on 4 pointer in Steuben because landowner had an 8 point restriction. It's a good rule which allows NY bucks to get big which unfortunately is not followed too often. But if you are just hunting for the meat - you might disagree.

    Rut!

This past weekend in 8P saw only 1 buck 4 pointer, no blood. No sign of rut activity. But spent quality time with my 16 year old son in the stand! Double stand getting a bit tight - lol. So - great hunt.
  19. Congrats fellow hunter from NYC! Just proves that you never know when you will see some action! Nice job!
  20. Really happy to find this forum. Not many hunters where I live. Too many libs & De Blasio fans who despise my passion for the outdoors. They have no clue! I am truly grateful to hear from others who share my passion and learn from so many fellow hunters on this site! Anyway - will be upstate this weekend with my son and hopefully harvesting a nice buck. Have a happy & safe season. Cheers
  21. Thank you F-150! Was out last week in LI - no luck. Hopefully better luck in Steuben county. Cheers!
