  1. Nice! It's that time of year when an unknown phone number can pop up at any time, lol.
  2. That's a big negative, but I did mount a deer for him a few years back...lol.
  3. Here we go again...the first one of the new season will be mounted up on friday. Not sure that I'm ready for this! Lol
  4. TheHornHunter, that's quite a transformation! I had a guy call me today about a deer he shot that was in need of some repair work. It was a really cool triple beamed buck but was missing his left side at the base. Between that and a new cape, I warned him that it was probably more of an undertaking that he wanted to get himself into. Crappy deal, it was a really cool looking deer.
  5. Cool buck! I was over to some family property yesterday checking cameras and had this big buck come across a cornfield. As he came up the bank to cross the road in front of me I noticed that one of his sides was a little funky with twisted looking tines. He ran past my truck and I saw that one of his hind legs was deformed above the tarsal area (obviously shot last year) and he couldn't lower it at all. He had no problem jumping the ditch and making it up the steep bank. It's amazing how tough those things are...
  6. The past few weeks have been pretty dead in the taxidermy department but the calls are starting to come in now despite the warm temps...
  7. Headed to Missouri for the gun opener after Ohio?
  8. It's definitely not from an overabundance of acorns! The crop has been virtually non-existent here in the finger lakes region for the second year in a row.
  9. That's how I spent my night too. At least I had a big turkey to keep me company!
  10. Nice buck! Glad the coyotes didn't get him first. My wife shot a doe yesterday that we had to leave overnight and coyotes beat us to that one. First deer I've ever lost to them...
  11. Out turkey hunting, but bucks were up and moving last night...
  12. Does have been blowing up the tactacam I have on a scrape right now. They use them alot!
  13. I would MUCH rather skin it myself if given the option and definately wouldn't want someone that's inexperienced to try to do the delicate skinning on the face! When someone drops off a head in a contractor bag, you never know what you will be getting. I prefer to take the neck down right to the atlas at the base of the skull. Must people get lazy with the skinning and tend to leave the entire neck attached, way too much meat on the hide or the brisket cut off short.
  14. Funny you mention this. I picked up a really nice spare this weekend that will probably get used on this other buck. It does have a cool double patch. I'm hoping to find him a different one and keep this one for myself to use on a deadhead I found.
  15. It's costs me $125 per cape for tanning. It will cost him this plus the price of a new cape. Large, early season, shorter haired capes are the most sought after and expensive to replace. A cape of this size can easily go for $150-200 green. Should be able to get it for cheaper than that though.
  16. Had a big arrow wound to the neck and dragged out with a rope around the neck. Costly mistake on his part lol.
  17. Lots of time left! I came home from hunting tonight and found this out in front of my garage. Guess he needs a new cape. I've had people send me deer with tags shoved in the mouth but never money before LOL
  18. Damn, had a deflection off of a rose bush and spined her. Had to put a follow-up in the pump station. Not exactly how it was supposed to go down
