  1. http://www.chuckhawks.com/270family.htm "The .270 Weatherby remains the top performing standardized cartridge in the caliber." "One of the latest members of the .270 family is the .270 WSM. This cartridge is based on the short but very fat .300 WSM case necked down to accept standard .277 inch bullets. It was immediately successful, as it filled the need for a short action .270 caliber cartridge. In performance this short magnum cartridge falls between the standard length .270 Winchester and .270 Weatherby Magnum."
  2. Agreed, but the WBY Mag is still faster, it still drops less, still hits harder, and still more accurate than the WSM. Case Closed. Saying the WSM outperforms the WBY Mag out to 500 yards is horse crap.
  3. All I am saying is the following: When I shoot my .270, It hits 3" above my desired target at 100 yards. Then if I shoot at my desired target at 200 yards, I will hit more than a 1/2" higher on the target.
  4. Doesnt matter what zero you use. The bullet will rise from 100 to 200yards using Weatherby ammo. It will never drop in those 100 yards. Wake up man, simple math.
  5. I only shoot Weatherby Factory Ammo or the few handloads we have left that my grandfather reloaded 20 something years ago. Why use a Weatherby rifle with inferior ammo? Makes no sense.
  6. The attached chart. No matter what grain in the .270WBY Mag, the bullet is still rising at 200yards, not dropping as you stated. Weatherby_catalog_ballistics.pdf
  7. Stop fudging the numbers. The WSM is cheaper to shoot, the WBY performs better. The numbers don't lie. However, you are lying.
  8. here's your 130gr correct data. 270 Wby. Mag. 130 gr. Nosler Partition 2892 fps. 2415 ft.-lbs. -5.19 in -15.28 in .270 WSM 130 gr. Nosler Partition 2810 fps. 2275 ft.-lbs. -5.60 in -16.30 in
  9. IT DOES NOT OUTPERFORM. YOU ARE LYING TO YOURSELF AND EVERYONE WHO READS IT. STATE THE FACTS. THE 270 WEATHERBY MAG SHOOTS FLATTER, FASTER, AND MORE ACCURATE THAN THE WSM 270.
  10. Where did you get this from? Maybe I am only familiar with 150gr? If zeroed at 100yards, the bullet should still be rising and be + inches at 200, no? he .270WBY Mag I shoot, is 2" high at 100, over 3" high at 200, dead on 300" and so forth. I THINK YOUR DATA IS INCORRECT
  11. To each his own. There no other .270 I'd rather have when need to make shots over 300 yards than a .270WBY Magnum. I've never shot any Vanguards.
  12. Keyword, "Almost". This isn't horseshoes. I think we can both agree on this statement: Anything the 270-WSM can do, the 270-WBY Mag can do better. This can not be said for vice-versa.
  13. Cheaper gun and cheaper to shoot, YES. As flat shooting, NO. As much knock down power, NO. As accurate, NO.
  14. In the table below bullet weight is given in grains, velocity is given in feet per second (fps) and energy is given in foot pounds (ft lb). General abbreviations used below are: MV (muzzle velocity), ME (muzzle energy), V (velocity), E (energy), yds (yards), Wb (weight of bullet). Abbreviations of bullet types are: SP (spire point), Sp (spitzer), BT (boat tail), HP (hollow point), FP (flat point), RN (round nose). Cartridge (Wb + type) MV (fps) V @ 200 yds ME (ft lb) E @ 200 yds .270 Win. (130 Sp) 3060 2639 2702 2009 .270 Win. (140 Sp) 3100 2620 2990 2140 .270 Win. (150 Sp) 2850 2183 2705 1587 .270 WSM (130 SpBT) 3275 2820 3096 2295 .270 WSM (150 Sp) 3150 2601 3304 2252 .270 Wby. Mag. (130 Sp) 3375 2982 3288 2415 .270 Wby. Mag. (150 Sp) 3245 2823 3502 2655 Of course, if you are looking for a cheaper rifle, then many other options are just fine. Just dont say they do the same exact job. Close, but no cigar.
  15. Of course there are cheaper rifles than a Weatherby. Please backup your statement with a .270 that does all of the following: shoots flatter, with more power, and better accuracy than a Weatherby .270 Magnum
  16. Not a remington, but a .270 Weatherby Magnum would fit the bill. Very flat shooting rifle. 0-300 yards you'd be holding dead-on. 400 yards you'd be holding just a little high, but still on the body. Found this on their website: "Some Weatherby® Mark V® rifles (.257 Wby. Mag. - .460 Wby. Mag.) can be ordered as a left hand model. For more information, please call the Weatherby Custom Shop at (805) 227-2600."
  17. In less than 10 days I am off to Arizona for revenge on a Tom Mountain Lion. I was there in February for 6 days and unfortunately came home empty-handed. I passed on some females and younger toms. I was unable to stay longer at the time, so I am headed back soon in hopes of getting a trophy Tom Mountain Lion. In addition, I put in for a Coues Deer Buck lottery tag for the 6 day season while I am there. Lucky enough, I was drawn. So if all goes according to plan, I will get a Lion and a Coues Deer. Only negative is that my Guide suggested I buy a pair of snake boots for this trip, unlike last time. Walking/running 10+ miles a day in 18" boots will be rough, but rather safe than sorry. I'd like to see a rattlesnake from the distance and shoot it and bring it back to get mounted, so we'll see what happens.
  18. Really Awesome Elk! One of these days I'll go on an Elk trip.
  19. I did 156mph in my vette on public road when I was 20 years old. I'm still alive.
  20. $90 unless you donate. I usually donate (free of charge) and you get to keep the backstraps.

    how 3n this year

I don't bowhunt, but I will be hunting 3N during the shotgun season and late ml/bow season with my crossbow. Good Luck. I think it will be a good year because of the very mild winter we had.
  22. I only know what this type of store is from traveling throughout NYS, but most people in this area have no idea what a "reservation store" is.
  23. No, I'm serious. I don't know anybody who smokes anymore. I don't see it anywhere anymore either. Barely anybody in Westchester County or NYC smokes these days. You can't smoke in public parks, train platforms, etc.
  24. Who still smokes? It was cool in the 90's and early 2000's only.
