  1. Those fur prices seem ridiculously low. Is it even worth the effort at those levels?
  2. Heading out in 7F for yet another attempt. After being humbled by 2 great Bucks during archery season, I have been left living vicariously through all of your successes. Hopefully today is my day otherwise it will be the first time in 20 years that I have failed to connect during the archery or regular season.
  3. Decided to switch things up and head north to my Dads property in 6G. Its been 12 days of nothing in Onondaga County so a change of scenery is needed. Light mist and tracks galore. Good luck everyone!
  4. Should hear em coming a mile away today. Sitting back in 7F for the AM 6:29....3 shots fired already.
  5. Is it just me or does anyone else hear the first gun shots on opening morning and automatically assume that the monster that eluded you during archery season was just killed?
  6. I have asked myself the same question over and over again. I started hunting at a meat hunter and every time I saw antlers I got the same way. I have been fortunate enough to take a few respectable deer in 6G over the years but most happened so quick that there was no time to get excited. The ones that came around and meandered for a while were always the ones I missed because I felt like i was going to shake out of the tree. Last year I purchased a 16 acre lot in 7f and I have seen more bucks than ever before. I have started getting used to seeing antlers so I thought I was cured. Then last sunday I missed a wide rack 10 point that I never saw before....at 25 yards. The feeling may never go away but it sure reminds me that I am alive!
  7. Based on my calculations and the NY BS charts, a 2" exit wound in the right rear arse quadrant of a big doe would result in a 23% loss of meat. I think a complete recalculation of useable meat must be conducted asap. Thank God for Basil Hayden's and Popcorn! Tonight has been awesome! Be well fellow hunters and be safe......

    ticks

Worst year for ticks that I have ever seen. Onondaga county is loaded with them on my property there. My Jefferson county property isn't as bad but the deer still seem to have a ton on them.
  9. Correct, that is the decoy in the background. Ole Jack purchased from Dicks. Realistic but not the best quality as far as silent assembly in the field. Got the job done though.
  10. No problem. Many ppl love the liver but I haven't found a love for it unfortunately. I think I overlook it thinking it will make it "safe" when I know it's perfectly fine to eat. Hope you like it better than I do and cheers to you for utilizing as much as you can. I respect that.
  11. Appears fine to me. The kidneys are what I find interesting. I have never done anything with them however always been interested. How donyou prepare them?
  12. Thank you everyone. I appreciate the kind words.
  13. My oldest son has been asking to go on a hunt with me this year so yesterday afternoon we headed up to my property in 6G and setup in a field surrounded by thick woods. I had been hunting a nice 8 that I have had camera pics of all year but didnt want to pass on an opportunity to hunt with one of my kids so we setup in a spot where the buck hadnt been seen all year. Knowing that the rut was nearing the end, I decided to use a decoy and a little code blue just in case. In the field by 2:30. At 4:15 I grunted 5 times and the deer I have been hunting all season runs out of the woods with his nose to the ground and immediately tries to breed my decoy (I guess it wouldnt hurt to have another one....). He dismounted when he was staring down my barrel at 75 yards and dropped in his tracks when the .300 Win Mag barked. Sadly, we see very few large deer and by most standards on this site, its probably a less than impressive deer but to my boy and I it was the greatest thing that could have happened to us yesterday. Bonding time and getting a deer that we were specifically targeting. In a couple months he will be 14 and it will be his time to start sitting with a gun. Thankful and blessed!
