If the both of you are going to be hunting that close to each others property lines there is bound to be a conflict sooner or later. You guys should talk and make the rules before the season to avoid conflict. We heard your side of the story but maybe you left out something that you might have said to to get the response you got about mistaking you for a deer. He may have just been making a joke. Hunting season comes and goes so fast lets enjoy the experience not remember the conflict.

Bubba, what's far from the city have to do with it? Where I hunt you can't see 100 yards into the property around us, heck I can't even see 100 yards any where on our 250 acres. Maybe you have those problems where there are big open spaces and hay and corn fields where when cut you can see deer from a far distance. Off the property lines and even from the road. My shooting range in my neck of the woods is mostly less than 100 yards more like 60-70 yards. But we do have tree stands not far from our property line, but never had any problems.
-
You can always hunt on another part of the property to avoid a conflict. And you don't own the property but you are acting like you do. Don't make yourself miserable, move on.

All I have to say is legally as long as their tree or ladder stand is on their property there is nothing you can do. We may not like it but we have to live with it. If they shoot a deer , who really knows what side of the property line it was shot at. Unless you see them take the shot and see the deer. Tricky situation!!

Haven't seen any in our area in Delaware County.

all the deer hunting on LI is all shotgun now right.

Is it legal to put out anise oil to attract bears? I know we can put out scents to attract deer. Never thought about this before want to be right.

As hunters we all attend the same church and it's the natural woods. I live on Long Island and when I had to head home from hunting the closer I got to the city the more miserable I started to feel. Like a mild depression. How do you compare the woods with the concrete city.
-
your area must have the same problem as mine the deer have no brow tines. But what a nice buck.
-
That's just what I intend to do with that black squirrel if he is still around.
-
Skillet, funny you mentioned squirrels, there weren't any in my area last year. But I did see quite a few and one was solid black. Took a shot at him with the bow but missed. But after deer season I will break out the 22.

You can't be so sensitive with the opinions of others if you don't agree. Lets just look at this logically when you take a shot with the bow it's at close range yes or no? That being said when you release the arrow you know if you hit that deer or not, because he is close to you . Now lets look at the gun hunters with the scope or no scope they take longer shots and" may" miss more often and also think they have missed just because the deer runs off. That is a problem that a shot is taken and some hunters have not followed up on the shot. That's how other hunters find dead deer in the woods. I think bow hunters follow up more than gun hunters do after the shot and the deer runs off. Just my humble opinion, and both lose deer once and a while even under ideal conditions. Hunt safe and hunt smart. Always follow up after every shot.

definately agree

Had the same conversation a few years back. The locals told us we only owned the land when we were there and when we weren't they did.
-
Pat, what is your definition of a city dork?
-
Steve, seeing as you had the rights to throw trespassers off the land even after he shot the deer you could have denied him the right to persue the deer. You shooting the deer was the right thing to do, surprised when he heard your shot he didn't leave. Forget about that idiot, enjoy your buck and have a great Thanksgiving. But please report the license to the DEC. I will bet he is a repeat offender.

Bubba, you better read the rules and regulations you don't want to be in violation. Hope you don't get confused with the sunrise and sunset times. Don't want to break the law.
