Have been seeing does in the meadow while heading into the woods and seeing does in the meadow when I exit the woods. Have seen only a few deer while on stand, one small spike. Maybe I should set up near the Meadow!!!!

Doc, hope you get better soon so you can teach those critters a lesson.

Just wanted to know how much snow you got in your areas. I am in 4W near Long Eddy and we got 6" . The prediction was for much more.

Guy's all your comments are right on the mark, life is too short. I turned 62 last month and now feel I am on the downward side of the hill. It's a little startling a position to be in knowing you don't know how many hunting seasons you have left. But my health is good and I have no physical disabilities thank god. So every time I have something to do that that prevents me from going up state to hunt I rearrange my schedule. If I don't go now then when will I, my time is now. Just like Joe said about his dad, I think too many of us put things off till we retire and some don't make it. So we have to live every day and do the things that make us happy remember tomorrow is never a sure thing. With that said good hunting to all.

What is the best choke for rabbit hunting

So you can use a skeet choke for rabbit hunting, what is the benefit of using the skeet choke? Just want to have my shotgun set up for the best possible results. So far I have learned that #6 shot with either Improved cylinder/skeet cylinder first and next choice would be modified . Do I have that right. Thanks -

Doe, I have a Mossberg 835 pump, I had been using 2 3/4 & 7/8 shot in 7 1/2 & 8. Would 6's be the better choice? -

Guys will be rabbit hunting on Nov, 1st. In Mattituck hunting a private nursery that is bordered by a winery. Last year saw two fox, thought they were German shepards . What is the best choke to use on rabbits?

What are the chances that two bucks that size are in the same area? What are the chances if they are two different deer they will tangle during the rut and bust up one of their racks? I think it's the same deer, but could be wrong.

Same with the apple trees I planted take about 5 or 6 years to get fruit. Out of the 9 trees I planted three have started to produce apples. Some more than others.

yes and you can't shoot a bear in a den or with a group of bears. If my memory serves me right.

I think you have got that right.

Guys I hear you , you would think in this time of close to double dip recession land would be a lot cheaper, but the fact is it's not. These people are asking top price for their land and I don't know why. Where are the bargains ? Maybe they are waiting for the Hydro fracking for Natural gas , leases to roll in and the roaltys from the gas companies. But nothing is cheap. I always thought that during the depression land went for cents on a dollar . And this administration said we were very close to a total financial collapse . It just doesn't make sense, economy down , people need money and they raise the price of their land. Maybe these people upstate aren't hurting as much as they might want you to think. If they were there would be a lot of land for sale at the right price. Just my opinion.

I don't go to diners either, usually put up some coffee and something light to eat then head out the back door. I would guess most guys eat at home if they have land or a base camp. Try to limit the smells before I hit the woods. I know a lot of guys stop at the Roscoe Diner, been there in off season once didn't care for it though.

The smaller the deer the harder the shot, congratulations.

First why would there be any hard feelings about a discussion, unless that's your reaction to others opinions. Why as a moderator do you let it get that far? You should be big enough to halt it right there on the spot. Unless you like to put fuel on the fire. Crap, is what we get to hear from you every time you post and some BS too. Rude is your personality. I don't think it's rude to bring to your attention that other moderators are more respectful, polite , and informative than you. You have a lot of growing up to do , if you listened more you might learn something. And please don't use the same old response about not being able to handle someone disagreeing with our opinions. One question why are the other moderators contributors and you are always ready for a fight? I wonder if we had vote the moderator off the Island how long you would last?
-
First lets start with the facts you are no moderator on the contrary you are an instigator. You insult anyone who doesn't agree with your so called facts. What's this being called out stuff I thought this was a hunting forum to express ideas and learn from each other, not the OK Corral. For the life of me I don't know why John puts up with your behavior. One fact ,more people have left this site because of your antics. You should learn to listen instead of running off with your mouth. I could care less about your opinion but more about the members on this site who contribute in a positive way. Does ADD ring a bell, take your medication. No need to respond, sick of reading your posts. Stayed away from the site for awhile and guess what you are still ranting and raving, how many members have you gotten into with? Guess you will continue till you piss off everyone on this site. If you want to know what a monitor is like just follow Doc's lead, polite, informative and respectful to all on this site.

Seems you have become the voice of reason on this topic not like the one sided opinion of WNYBH. Who has a tendency to lecture us all on what we should be doing as long as it agrees with his view of hunting. For as long as I can remember we have been hunting with out the AR and it has worked for all these years. Now the trophy hunters have the ear of the DEC and whey want to change things. We should just leave things alone , if you are happy with a spike fine, if you want a trophy fine it's all in the choice of the hunters.

which location is this store? Is it the store in Middletown?

You hit the nail on the head.

Why do we fight like hell to protect our gun rights and afraid to have them limit any type of gun we choose to use. But have no problem having them limit out rights to hunt what we want. And lets not get to splitting hairs over our rights versus privledges. You know what I am getting am, I know how the Philadelphia lawyers pick apart stuff like that. What good is fighting over the second amendment when you are a hunter and you have nothing to shoot. Just my humble opinion!!

The camp I hunt with has no problem drinking. There are about 13 or so guys up the opening weekend and no one drinks during the day. But at nite after dinner the beers keep on coming and the dart games begin and last thru the nite. No one gets drunk, but many beers are consumed and everyone is up bright and early the next day to hunt. Been like this since 1993. As for me my drinking days are over and that's my choice. Don't need to drink to have a good time.
