  1. There was a ton of fresh sign out there today, tracks and rubs. If you can get out today, I would.
  2. Thanks for all the congratulations. I saw the weather forecast and was hoping the deer would be moving before the storm. I got out late and jumped 3 doe on the way in. I decided to sit in the big stand just to let everything settle down. I was there for 30 minutes, but my brain kept telling me to move to the south side of the property. I packed up and still hunted over to the south. I found two fresh scrapes 6' away from each other and decided to sit near the scrapes. I was only there 15 minutes, and I could smell the musk in the air. He walked out 20 yards in front of me and that was it. It has been a tough season for a lot of us. Stay positive and trust your instincts. #from the ground
  3. I'm seeing the same thing. Tons of fresh tracks, I bumped a doe with two fawns on my way in. The bright side is that effectively doubles the number of deer that I've seen this season.
  4. How has your luck been with turnips? I've been thinking about getting some in the field next year, but I hear two different stories, The deer hate them and they're a waste of time or the deer love them and can't get enough.
  5. Didn't see a thing last night except squirrels and lots of them. They were barking and fighting all afternoon. Only heard one shot from the neighbor's property. I have tomorrow off so I will be pushing hard for the rest of the weekend.
  6. The wind shifted and the snow started falling. I couldn't resist it. Up and in for a midweek sit.
  7. In for the evening in 8F. Wind is manageable for now. Looking for the bucks trying to bat clean up in the late innings.
  8. I have had that happen and I believe that has happened to a few others on the forum this year. after my misfire I spoke with a gunsmith who warned me that if the round's primer was dented that the round is very unstable and to be sure to dispose of it and not keep it laying around.
  9. I worked with a guy named Mark Zagger who would trap a ton of yotes every year and they always come back. Even if you take out a whole pack, another will move in. But it's like a lot of other things. Every little bit helps.
  10. A muff with hand warmers is the ticket. I've used one for the past few years. I just bought one for my son and convinced my in-laws to upgrade from glitins.
  11. Back in for the evening after a hot lunch and some dry socks and boots. The grind continues.
  12. Walked in about 5:45 and back out at noon. The only tracks I saw in the snow must have been from early this morning (2-3 o'clock) nothing new on the way out. I'm grabbing a bite to eat, fresh socks and heading back out until dark.
  13. I brought snacks and hot coffee. We'll see how long i can hold out. I may just try an all day sit.
  14. Fresh snow and it is quiet out here in 8f. Very few fresh tracks in the snow hopefully they were waiting for daybreak to start cruising. Good luck!!
  15. I'll second that. Headed out to back side of my property tomorrow morning, wind looks perfect for the new stand and a few inches of snow would be great.
  16. After doctor visits and parent teacher conferences i got to the stand around 3:15. It is definitely much colder than last night. Hopefully the cold and wind gets them up and moving.
  17. That thing is a bruiser! If it was any bigger you'd need a bigger wheeler.
  18. I also have a 742 woodsmaster. They can be finicky. I would recommend using a "bore snake" from chamber to muzzle to clean it rather than a traditional push rod. It helps prevent dirt from getting in the action.
  19. Are you giving the meat directly to the familys or is there an organization that you are donating to? I have passed on a few doe because my freezer is still pretty full but we have an over population of doe in our area.
  20. Didn't see anything while I was in the stand but as I was walking out I ran into this single lady standing at the edge of my field. I waited 5 minutes and finally had to whistle her away. Waiting on a buck this year, but I was tempted.
