I am looking for someone to hunt with in the WNY area. Preferably in the eastern Bflo suburbs. I am not looking to go with you and shoot the trophy you have been after for years or anything like that. Just someone who is looking to fill the freezer for the upcoming winter while letting the wife see me actually shoot a deer instead of hearing about it. She is normally in the woods with me when ever i am out. I would only be interested in hunting with the bow weather it be archery or regular season but will probably not do much hunting in this area during regular season. I have always considered myself as an ethical and safe hunter and have been in the woods for almost 30yrs. I will be completely upfront and tell you that i really do not have anything to trade or give you other then the companionship in the woods and a new friendship.

got these off of one of our cameras a couple of weeks ago. He is standing against the SAME tree that Dad shot a 400# one last yr during archery. Claw marks are about 6' from the ground

so here is the problem with the whole idea of finding a new pro shop......NOT that i am against the idea in any way. Since we live in the greater buffalo area (eastern suburb), we have very few choices to begin with. the one that we go to (will NOT mention names of course) is the closest one that we have of the 4 in the area and even that one takes a good 25-30 mins to get to. so since we are as limited as we are here in this lovely area, dont really have any other choice. NOW, if any of yous live in the buffalo area and can reccomend their shop as better then the other, by all means, we will be more then happy to check them out

First........ty for all the replies. Secondly, have you ever gotten so frustrated at the simplest problem that you over look the complete obvious???? Well I have to tell you that I am quite embarressed here since that it the complete case. At least on my part anyways. I have been shooting guns since I have been 6 y/o (37 now) and have been taught that same rule about the rear sight from day one as well. Feel like a complete idiot now but we all make mistakes right??? But at the same time, this is why I am happy I am a member of this forum. It is guys like all of you that make hunting and shooting what it is all about. I plan on going to shoot at the shop again early next week and will bring up their lack of attention to detail and the fact the they should've caught this from the start. Unforturnately, since I am just now starting to get around again, the plans for the compressed cardboard target in the yard had to be put on hold and this is the only other place we have to shoot for now. Plus with the problems I had, glad I wasnt on the yard and was sending arrows over the fence and down the street so that place will be best until we are sighted in. Peep is actually set a little high already. Apparently, its supposed to be set about 5.5" (i guess, i didnt know of such a thing) and i am at 6.25" already and cant really go much higher. Double and triple checked the nock placement and that perfectly level as well. So this is why everyone invloved is scratching heads and i choose to turn to some people that i think would actually be useful in this situation, regular everyday people like myself that are doing it for the love of the sport and help others just because thats what we do

Hey everyone, been a while since I've been on and posted but had yet another knee surgery with some complications afterwards. BUT thankfully all is good now. So the question at hand is this........My birthday just passed in the beginning of June right b4 I had my surgery. My parents, being the great parents they are, knew the need for a new bow for me and a bow (period) for my wife. So they ended up buying us both new Alpines for my birthday with all the goodies for mine and everything but arrows for hers, so nice for my parents to buy the wie a present on MY birthday right? So I FINALLY got to go shoot today for the first time since then (and yes it was beyond torture looking at it everyday and not being able to shoot it) and I cant seem to get my top pin set. I have always shot 3 pins (20,30,40) and I have the top pin almost (I mean really close) to the pin guard and the whole pin assembly cant go any farther up in the bracket. I was at the pro shop that it was bought from and we even went as far as to flip the mount to raise the whole thing. I am STILL shooting about 2 feet high...........I am beyond stumped at this point, the owner of the pro shop is scratching his head and so are his employees. ANY and ALL suggestions are welcome. Here are the vitals on the bow: Alpine Frenzy 54# 27" Gold Tip Velocity w/75gr heads it came with cobra sights that I am personally not fond of but that is what came with it and I will no way be the person to look a gift horse in the mouth considering I havent had a new bow in 16yrs. I truly do understand that living here in the United States, which i PROUDLY SERVED (back in the early 90's when nothing was happenin), means that every one is entitles to there own opinion. Unfortunatly it also means that we allow these "organizations" like the Humane society, and "PETA" and other so called animal loving groups to form. With that being said, WHY is it so hard for these people to see or understand that this animal in particular, has been reproducing for over 90 years???? Does anyone besides me know what this does to an animal population? I have no idea how many eggs a dove produces or how many hatch out of that but i mean come on!!!!!!! I completely agree with MR VJP when he talks about the "lies" and "meaningless arguments". Do these people even think before they open their mouths? Dont get me wrong here, i have said a ton of stupid $h!t before i thought about what i was saying. These people are beyond stupid, thinking hunting doves is target practice? they ever watch one of these things fly in the air? OMG, they are just a tad fast, I have a hard enough time trying to hit a pheasant, and they are 5x as big and twice as slow!!! But, what's my problem, it's just like target practice right? There's hardly any meat on them? Have they ever seen the size of a quail? last time I checked they were a lot smaller then a dove and i dont hear them complaining about quail seasons Obviously everyone on here could probably go on and on about this NONSENSE that this so called "animal right" group is complaining about but the facts are obvious. YES we hunt, YES we all KILL animals. Does that make it wrong for people like myself or the rest of us to go out, enjoy a SPORT, take in nature, and TRY ( and you all know what I mean when I say TRY) to HARVEST, not kill an animal for myself and my family to consume to sustain life? But then again, what do I know? I'm just an outdoors man who spends a TON of money in this country, I'm not an owner of a slaughter house killing animals that are bred for the sole purpose of being killed.

So i went outside to take the dog out a little bit ago and caught something out of the corner of my eye. Low and behold, damn woodchuck crawling along the rock wall in the backyard between the yard and the fence. So with a four month old puppy (beagle/lab mix adorable as hell btw) i think Mr. Chucky is going to have to be introduced to Mr XX75 out of the PSE. Am i wrong in thinking that the dog would beyond loose the battle between the 2 of them if she got to it? Now mind you that I and the wife can keep good control of her when we take her out but its the kids taking her out that i worry about her getting out of control and seeing something that she thinks is her newest play toy......lol. I really dont know what a chuck would do to a dog (puppy) if they got into it. any thoughts suggestions would be appreciated...

i KNOW that i am going to be the huge exception to the rule here but i thought i would throw in my $.02. So when ever we go to our property or even camping for the weekend to some camp ground i always throw in the car my "jump bag". the contents consist of multiple band-aids, tylenol, motrin, excederin. also in it is neosproirin of some type, 1st aid tape (in 1/4", 1" and 2" widths) 4 each of 3" & 4" roll gauze, 0 4x4 qauze pads, 10 5x9 pads, 2 large trauma pads (10"x20" i believe) an ob kit (child birth kit, hey you never know), stethoscope, bp cuff, pen light, forceps, sting kit, epi pen, bag valve mask (ambu bag), pocket mask (last 2 for CPR administration) multiple pairs of gloves, 4 triangular bandages (for slings/ should inj and immobilization of broken limbs). I am sure there is more in it but that's all i can think of off the top of my head. so to answer the question of what am i prepared for....pretty much anything and everything that can happen in the woods on anywhere else. I should also mention that i was an NYS certified EMT and Firefighter for the last 16 years. Like i said, i know most wont many carry what i carry or even come close to that extreme. I carry it b/c i know how to use to it and what to do in these situations. BUT i do have to give A LOT of props to Wooly for starting this thread. As he said, it seems like a no brainer but i would guess that 80-90% of us hunters and outdoors-men are un-prepared for an emergency. It is something that we should ALL pay more attention to. and on a personal note, i am MORE than elated that i WAS prepared about 10 years ago (before safety straps were the norm) when my father fell out of the tree stand due to ice on the platform. if you are one of those people that think it will never happen to you or someone you know, let me tell you first hand.......... YOU ARE WRONG. be smart, be prepared but most importantly remember that most accidents can be prevented by using just a little bit of common sense. Whacker.....to answer your ?? in complete honesty, NO we cant come up with it. Like i have said multiple times before in this thread, there is ALOT more to this story. I completely understand what you are saying about cancelling this or that, and i agree. Unfortunately, we dont have cable as we dont watch that much TV. cell phone is the only phone we have and we are actually on my parents plan for the time being as our contract ran out and they offered to help with that aspect. and yes i am on the internet but it is through a wireless connection on a laptop from the neighbors signal (and yes they know about it). And with the tax return situation, her oldest is 28 (long story) and the kids father claims the other 2 b/c its an "off" year for her claiming them. anyone who is divorced with kids knows how that goes... BY NO MEANS do i think you are trying to be an a-hole. From what i have read on here over the past few months, i see that you are a decent person that tries to help people with your advice. and that is exactly how i take it, as advice and someone that is trying to help. By no means did it come out as or did i take is that it was meant to be offensive, rude or crude. If you have any more suggestions on how you think that we could do this, please, let me know and i thank you for the advice

phade...the bow that you mentioned from my earlier thread complete fell threw. it was one of those offers that sounded to good to be true and it obviously was. shouldve known that someone wasnt really willing to sell a brand new diamond edge for $145. As far as what i have.i bought my bow (PSE split limb Beast) over 15 years ago so it really aint worth a crap on the market. and at the time was the lower price point line for PSE on top of it all. BUT i will say that since i have had it for so long, i can shoot the hell out of that thing. Now as far as what i am trying to do for the wife....i ultimately would love to get one donated. I know it is asking a lot from individuals but i honestly dont think it is for a company to do, especially if you knew the entire story. I dont make a habit out of asking people for help or for charity and never really have other then simple advice. If you are interested in knowing more (i.e. like the story of her almost loosing her life) let me know and i will be more then happy to send you a p.m. Just dont wanna post on the public part as I dont feel that people who arent interested in helping out a fellow hunter adn huntress wanna be dont need to know whats going on. I am sorry to all of those that will read this and take offense to it but that is the way i feel. I know that there are a ton of people who need help and would love to help me as well but just cant do it right now. TRUST me when i say i understand, we are in the same boat which is why i started this thread to begin with. Every one here hunts for the most part and every one of us knows what putting a deer or two in the freezer does to the grocery bill. 26 1/2 draw (using the formula of finger tip to finger tip divided by 2.5) and she can pull about 43 max. and looking for a general type ladies bow (i.e diamond edge, apline ruckus, that type)

So here's the scoop.My future wife went through a TON of $h!t last year between health problems and injuries to myself to which she had to tend to. She is longing and desiring for a bow this spring. Between all the health issues and injuries, needless to say that we can't shell out a few hundred $$ on a bow for her. Obviously she cant shoot mine due to length and weight issues. I have contacted bow manufacturers and have gotten a few denials so far. What I would like to know from all of you fellow NY bow hunters out there, which i know there are a ton of, Do any of you know of any person/company that would be willing to help her out? She is a divorced Mother of 4 (one deceased due to disease b4 the age of a year), she is a former volunteer firefighter, works with the handicapped and gives more then any other person i have ever seen. If any of you would like the WHOLE story, please private message me and i will send you the whole letter that i wrote. It is very hard for me/us to ask for help but she deserves it more then anyone i know and would help her out huge!!!! the savings alone in groceries is unbelievable which i am sure you all know. I am sure some of you are thinking, well what about the guy writing this?? well, i was injured this past december and the dr's are thinking its permanent and i am unsure if i will ever work again let alone ever hunt. I am truly hoping there is someone out there in cyber world that help out my future wife. after all, the new hunters are the future of our sport and she is beyond dedicated already and hasnt even killed anything.... thanks in advance to all of you

OMFG!!!!!! that was beyond impressive. I personally have done every single deer i have shot and i have done several others for friends of mine. I have done done it even close to that fast. I probably average around an hour or two to skin, most likely that long due to the drinking of beer while doing it but even without the beer drinking it would still take me 45 mins at least just to skin the damn thing. But i will say that if you notice in the video, razor sharp knives and bone saw help A LOT!!!!!

how early is to early to start training them??? I have a beagle lab mix (mostly beagle as you can see from the pic) that was born on 12/3/10. she has found a couple in the yard and chases/tracks them but i dont htnink she really knows that she is doing what she is "supposed to be doing"

The year that I shot my first deer (4 pt in 1990), my father was lucky enough to take a piebald with the contender (.35 rem). When we were skinning them out, he hit metal as well. Upon further digging, we found a 125 Thunderhead broadhead with about 12" of Easton aluminum still attached to it. From what we could tell, who ever shot it, was on the ground, at a SEVERE 1/4ing away and the person shot high. The broadhead was lodged into the spine and had done little to no damage at all to the spinal column and obviously none to the spinal cord itself. So, after seeing this post and looking at ll the pics that are posted on the other forum, I am thinking that I just might have to up the poundage on the bow and add just a tad more powder to the rifle loads...lol

Thanks G-man, I tend to agree with you on the 100 gr point, but that brings me to the concern of K.E. and speed at such a low poundage.........if any of you disagree with me, PLEASE tell me and let me know. Again, G-man, no disrespect and please don't think I don't value your opinion, just throwing my thoughts at ya to get a better idea of what you/everyone is thinking out there. So me and the wife went out shopping today and picked out and ordered her FIRST bow. Thanks to me I got her hooked on the sport...I know, I know, I know, I am still trying to decide if this was a good idea or not. But at the same time, I guess she cant bitch about me going hunting anymore, LOL But any ways, The question I am having an issue with is this, what weight point/broadhead should I get her shooting? She will be starting out shooting in the neighborhood of 42#, with a 26 1/2" (carbon arrow) draw length out of a Alpine Ruckus (of course in pink camo). I can also tell you that she will eventually be shooting mechanical broadheads. I personally shoot 56# with a 28" aluminum XX75 with 75gr Rocket Mini-Blaster's. Despite what you may or may not think, it really is a DEADLY combination for me. But I also know that I will switching it up to 85 or 100gr next year when I upgrade. So I know that I don't wanna get her into such a light weight head I am thinking either 85gr or 100gr?????????? We are picking the bow up in a couple of days so the help would be greatly appreciated.
