  1. niagara county sportsmans assoc. its on lower mountain road in sanborn. my father has been a member for years and i was also a member for a while. they are pretty awesome up there. relativley cheap and has awesome ranges for rifle (up to 300 yrds) a 50 yrd range sperate from the others, what they call a combat range which is a short range almost anything goes range, nice archery range with elevated platforms, fishing ponds and i THINK they have a indoor range as well but not sure about that
  2. just got the word a little while ago....we get possesion of the house on Friday with early occupancy but still cant close on it for at least ANOTHER couple of weeks. again, maybe its just me but why cant these [eople just do the job they are being paid to do and went to school for 27.385 years to do? i just do not get it, here you have people (us) willing to write you a check for this piece of property that is vacant, and you dont wanna do your job so you can get paid? BUT at least we get to move our crap in and do the little things before i have yet another surgery this coming week
  3. so i should clarify a few things.....first off, we are NOT waiting for ANYTHING from the bank as this is a 100% cash deal. mext there are no isuranceissues becasue we were told by our lawyer that we needed to have our homeowners in effect for the day of the closing which was the 13th. after that we can get into the paperwork issues of one not having this or that or the title not being clean and what not. well they have the title in one of the lawyers possesion and it is clean as we also havea friend who works at county hall and has pulled the records for us as soon as they were orderedso there would be no delays. and according to their atty, they all the paperwork that they need. they have also completed the survey and there is no issues with that either. we got a phone call this mornign and the sellers atty has finally returned a phone call. he doesnt have a problem with us taking possseion of the home before closing as long as there is an additional deposit and the house is insured appropriately, which it is with one phone call to the agent as the paperwork is sitting on his desk. but the problem is that he is supposedly having trouble finding the seller. how hard can it be to find the deller when she is in a damn assisted living home??? its not like her kids are the ones selling it for her and live out of town. she is completely with it from what we are told and she is the who signed the damn contract to begin with so i dont understand the problem??? maybe it's just me that has trouble figuring out what the issue is???
  4. take a look at the boots from the sportsmans guide. i highly reccomend any of the guide gear brand boots. they all come with a lifetime warranty and they really do follow through with it too. myelf, the mrs, ad dad all buy their boots and return them every year and they send a brand new pair with no questions asked....... jsut my .02 cents
  5. So a little over a month ago, me and the mrs signed a contract on a house with a cash deal and a closing date of Aug 13 (two days ago). so here it is pretty much weds and the lawyer says that the sellers atty isnt ready. so here we are, living out of boxes and mattresses on the floor, paper plates and the whole nine. just starting to really really make a ad but upset as you can all imagine. what makes thing worse is we had friends of ours cancel vacation plans to help us move this coming sunday which we now have no idea if that will happen or not. we figured it would take 2-3 days to paint a couple of rooms and a day for my father to replace the wooden exterior doors with steel ones and then also left us with a couple of days of wiggle room to do littel stuff here and there that all adds up. just a littel rant and some venting that i think is TOTAL b.s. that the seller can do this especially when the house is vacant and empty and has been since we looked at it
  6. welcome ted........good luck in your pursuit of the 12. i am in your area as well (lancaster) with parents that live in cambria. we hunt in bolivar though. welcome to the site and have fun with it like most of us do
  7. PSE stinger 3g all the way......right at your price point and not only fast but SUPER SUPER quiet.
  8. it was towards the end of archery season alst year when me and the mrs were roaming around walmart for something stupid. as aslways, if i am actually dragged into that store, i always go check out the sporting goods section to see if they have anything good on clearance. i happen to come across the section with the marked down archery stuff hanging up and i ended grabbing a spare bow mount quiver for something lke $4 nad then looked up and seen some of these broadheads, I was pretty unsure about them but then seen they they were originally around $20-25 or something like that marked down to $6. so i figured for that price i would grab what they had and if nothing else would keep them in my hunting stuff for spares. now after seeing that kind of damage, they might be coming out of the storage bins and be first up on the end of the gold tips this fall......
  9. First....sorry to hear about your relatives. Just wanted to tell you that i actually know the house very well (I think). If i am correct it is the one directly to the right from where the old trailer park was a few years ago right behind penora pizza? just really caught my eye since we are actually looking for a house right now and got frustrated looking at a million websites with all the sames houses on them so i came over to hear and happen to see it. unfortunately since we live off central now in the village, we are trying to go into the country if we can so we wouldnt really be interested. I can tell you though that after looking at a million and 3 houses both on the web and in person, seems really nice and i would say it is most certainly at the right price point.
  10. i agree with you 1000%......like i said, i have never been happier with any service i have recieved from any type of outdoor store. Like you, i live nowhere close to elmira (buffalo area) but am now a customer for life as well. my son recieved a bow from my father as a gift and that bow will be taken to Barrett's to get fitted and set up for him. those guys truly run a top notch operation
  11. For those of you that are in South Central NY like the Elmira, Corning area, you need to check this place out. Its located in Elmira Heights and could not be more impressed with the knowledge and most of all, the service from these people. Last weekend we went down to Elmira to visit my Grandmother for her 87th b-day. my cousin had told me about this place and figured since we were going down anyways, i would have the little woman shoot sinc they have an indoor 30 yd range. When we got there, I had one of the guys check out her draw length since i knew that the guy who we had bought the bow from here in Buffalo completely set the entire bow up wrong, and boy was i right. Not only did we have to adjust her draw length by more than an 1.5" (and the initail guy insisted it was correct even though both i and her said it wasnt right) but they did it for no charge even though we didnt buy it from them originally. Then we went over tot he range where she proceeded to shoot from the ten yd line and you are aiming at the floor and still hitting 3 feet high, u ten to make adjustments on botht he sight and the peep. after the adjustments failed to produce results, i went and asked the guys for some help on the range. one of the compund bow techs came over, since they have "techs" for every type of bow there is, and watched her shoot. she made a couple of shots and the guy made a couple more adjustments. after he just watched for a few more shots and then took the bow from her and asked me to look at the cams as he was drawing. talk about being out of time......oh my lord. last year when she got this bow, she was having problems sighting it in and the shop owner kept taking it to the bow press and moving the peep and taking twists out of the string then putting some more into it etc. the bow ended up being so out of time the one cam was so far advanced of the other one that it was barely past the breaking point when the other one was at full draw. they worked on her bow for almost two full hours fixing that problem alone. long story short is they took their time with her and showed her quite a few tips and tricks and now she actually enjoys shooting like we all do. then when we left we went back to my g-ma's house and my cousin was there and i was telling him about the experience from these true professionals. he proceeded to tell me that he took his 14 y/o son in there a few weeks back and when he went to pay he told my cousin the total. my cousin then proceeded to tell the owner that his son was paying for it himself since he earns his own money and what they were buying was something that his son wanted so he saved his money for it.....the owner gave them a discount somewhere in the neighbor hood (by my math and the rough numbers he was giving me) of a 35-40% discount since he was using his hard earned money. I can not rave enough about this place. not only is the service BEYOND anything i have ever experienced here in buffalo but they also have an indoor range with 10, 20 and 30 yrd targets, along with the techno hunt. and then on top of all of that, they also carry more supplies than i have ever seen in a shop locally and aslo have probably in the area of 150 new Matthews, Hoyt, Mission, and Elite bows. Just thought i would pass this along to everyone since its located in a weird spot that you wouldnt find if you werent looking for it...... BTW.....i am in no way shape or form afflilated with this company.....jsut wanted to pass along that there are still awesome shops in this state
  12. when we are at our land (Bolivar, NY) we do NOT go into the woods to do anything, walk, work, ride, ANYTHING without some sort of firearm. I generally carry a short barrel Mossy 500 with 3" slugs on the stock and 3" 00 buck in the tube, and my father generally always has his .40 S&W Glock on him where ever he goes period. I will say this though.........we do NOT carry on our land for protection form animals or people. We carry as there is a ZERO population of any type of small game with the exception of squirrels. My parents also have a very small dog that goes with them whenever they are at the cabin. We carry for teh event that we are walking the trails, riding, or even doing work on the property and one of the many coyotes we have (on camera) happens to walk by or we walk up on one by dumb luck. Besides the coyotes that we are haing issues with, we also have an OVER population of porqupines that we are trying to get rid of and stop them from destroying all of our trees. We have little to zero worries of a human or even a bear for that matter trying to attack us while we are there. Yes, we have had our share of trespassers on our property, but we take the higher road with them and let the law handle those idiots so they can suffer by paying fines and having their criminal records all screwed up
  13. for any of you that like these and do wnat to make them your self or can figure out how to make them (my wife actually helps me with the center part). send me a p.m. and i can make them and send them out to you. price is VERY reasonable.....$10 without the leather and $12 with the leather. was making them for a local bow shop before the season but since season is over, he hasnt had the need for restocking yet.
  14. So i have decided that this year i am going to treat myself to a new ladder stand of some type. the question i have for all of you is this, i want a chair type style stand but i want it to be super comfortable. not lazy boy comfortable, since i would be doing more sleeping than hunting, lol, but i want it to be more comfortable than the standard 1" pad on top of a metal mesh. i like the looks of the summit lock on stands with the chair type seat but would really really prefer a ladder stand. just looking for some opinions and suggestions so i can check some out at the WNY outdoor show in March
  15. Cobra did the same thing for my wife's bow. the bracket that holds the sight to the bow cracked (have no idea how). i called them and they said, no problem, we will send one out to you priority mail. got it 4 days later. NO charge, No questions asked. and actually just called master lock yesterday as well for a combination lock that the dial would not turn. not only are they sending out a replacment, they are sending out a better qulity, stronger one that the one i have that is broken
  16. the shape i have choosen to get into is a triangle............
  17. like a few of you others, me and the misses, we go very light if anything ont he gifts for each other. but this year seemed to be different. we did the usual go to my parents house so the step kids can open thier gifts from them, since they go to theirs fathers house on xmas day. after they were all and said and done and we were about to leave, my mother looked at me and said, oh yeah, btw, their is a gift form you on the spare bed. get it now so you take it with you today instead of saturday. i did the um....sure ok thing and walked in to the room which hada brand new hard rifle case on the bed. i thought oh, cool dad just gave me that .308 so now i have a new case for it. then i picked it up andit was heavy. apparently, the .308 i got back in august or september wasnt enought for my father. opened the case to find a Savage 110 in 30/06 with a redfield 3-9 on it. this guy is unreal. love my father to death and am thankful for every day we get both in and out of the woods. then the wife decides to put a big box in front of me only to open it and find a brand new toshiba sattelite laptop. she thought my other one was to old for me to use for school and need something ffaster and better. i told her i didnt want this, it was to much, completely un-nescesssary and should go back to where ever it came from. needless to say that since i am on it right now, i lost that battle. she says she is proud of me for going back to school and doing so well my first semester after 20 yrs that i deserve it. just like ALWAYS, she wins. over all though, great year, just happy to be with the ones that i love and care for. hoping the new year is jsut a s great for me ,us and everyone here
  18. I actually make and sell somehng similar. I.m. me for mor details. On the way to the cabin now so it might t.be a few days before getting back to u.
  19. your original post mentioned the Barska brand.......as strange as it may be, especially coming from someone whose father always put Leopold on every gun, he gave me a .308 a few weeks back and we took it to the club to shoot. He ended up mounting a Barska Colorado 3-9x40 on it. This is honestly one of the best scopes I have shot. The clarity is unreal, the adjustments on it are awesome and easy to use and the scope is very receptive. I would defiantly recommend it especially with the calibers being so closely related in a lot of aspects of a rifle round. The best part is you can get the scope from the sportsman’s guide for under $30
  20. as strange it may sound, this goes right along with the bleach concept. I used to get it a lot when i was in my late teens and early 20's. My father told me to use gas. yup, straight gasoline. i thought he was nuts until i tried it and it worked within a day or two at most. just take some gas and dip a cotton ball into it and then rub it on to the affected areas. do this every hour or two and it will be gone before you know it. Like bleach, this isnt recommended by any doctors and i am sure the FDA wouldn't approve. but it truly does work
  21. i would definitely give savage a call to see if this is a problem that they will rectify. I know from my shooting experience, and common sense, that isnt normal. Most gun manufacturers today seem to stand by their products well and will most likely offer a solution. maybe its just me, but i dont think i would be taking the gun anywhere with a round in the chamber without having the safe on
  22. you are completely right by saying that. From my experience as a lifelong EMT, rigor does only last a short period of time in humans. Being that both humans and deer are both mammals, i would think that it is the same for both. many of the hunters in the family have made the same comment about not being stiff after an extended waiting period and have to explain the same thing to them over and over
  23. I cant really tell you much about the rifle except that i know it is chambered in 8x57 Mauser and was built on a Mauser action. He bought that one used at a gun show last year sometime and then was given to me a s a gift. As far as the shooting part, i really didnt care for the way it shot much. I was using hand loads with 170gr silver tips. It was shooting 1 1/2" group of 3 shots at 100yrds. and that is the best we could get no matter what the load we came up with. The only thing i did like about it was that it seemed that it has recoil then most of the modern cartridges that i have shot in the same ball park category (.280, .308, 30/06 and the like ) But over all it is a nice gun and will continue to hold on to it for a while until i can find some thing else that i might be interested in. I will say that i have always wanted a .308 so i can scratch that off the list to look for.
  24. #6's out of a modified choke normally. have even used 7 1/2's on occasion but generally six's. pretty good all around load IMO for any small game animal like rabbits and birds pheasant size and smaller
