Went 4 hours during gun season without loading the rifle. Good thing i decided that I wasn't going to pop a doe that day since I had them all over me all morning. Wasn't until late morning when I had to take a leak and went to unload the gun to get down when I realized I never put any in it

Rain Gear Recommendations
firehunter48 replied to BKhunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Frog togs by far. Wouldn't replace mine for anything. ...except the lay - z - boy and a warm fire in the cabin. I got mine about 6yrs ago. Happened to walk by them at dicks when they were on the sale rack. Got both top and Bottoms for $45-50 bucks. At the time I had never heard of them but now they are all the rage -

Crossbow Review: Scorpyd Ventilator

Love the fact that the 100# model is over 300 for but I pretty sure it's won't meet the 17" requirement here in NY -

Waterproofing Pac Boots
firehunter48 replied to BKhunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I have always worn pac boots cause I thought they were warm. 8 yrs ago I went out and bought an expensive pair only to have my feet freeze every year. Found out today when ordering my new WARM 2400 gram boots that my pac boots are only 200 grams. Explains why my feet are numb in the stand when it's cold. Sorry....kinda off subject but kinda on point as well. Now back to the regularly scheduled program -
Again....Thank you everyone for the encouragement. Need it right about niw. Pretty down about the first 4 weeks but am looking forward to November which is my better time to be in the woods anyways. I am beyond thankful that it was found now instead of the alternative of falling asleep in the stand and not waking up

Holy crap did that hurt. By far one of the most painful surgeries I've had. But it's official. ...4 weeks. Seriously depressed over this but I know it's for the greater good so I'm just gonna have to deal with it

I shoot Rocketvas well and will never change. Although I shoot the little 75gr miniblaster. ..they leave quite the hole with a diameter of 1.75". But like another member said, u hit a deer in the right spot and it's not going to matter what head you're using

X2 Took the words right out of my mouth

I personally don't hunt with one but have shot my fathers. Love the round!!! It is my father's primary rifle for hunting. He uses it for everything. Deer here in the southern tier, took it to Utah and took an elk with it and used it in Africa on a wildebeest, gemsbok, springbok, and a brush buck. It is one of the most versatile round's I have seen in a long time.

Awesome news

Can't thank everyone enough for the well wishes and encouraging words. They all mean a lot even though I have never met a single one of u. I went to pacemaker doc yesterday and I am officially getting one. I begged for an appointment today or tomorrow but his first available appointment is Friday the 26th. I talked with him and made sure that he would place the device in my left shoulder since I'm right handed. I told him that was imperative to my shooting a gun. He also told me that I had to behave for 2 weeks but the first week was the most important. So my season MIGHT be salvaged. I am going to talk to him about being able to draw a 60 lb bow. If he says no, I am gonna make a call to the DEC about a crossbow permit for regular archery season since the way I interpret the regs, if u can't draw and hold a bow due to medical reasons they will issue that permit. As I know I very well may be wrong about that, I would check with them. If not, I'm just gonna have to wait. It's the waiting time to heal that will kill me since I know my father will be in the stand, calling me telling me about all the deer he's seeing and walking straight to my stand. Is what it is at this point and right now I just have to remember that if I don't get this done and heal right that i won't be waking up to go to the stand anymore period. Again....THANK YOU ALL. It truly does mean a ton

Just found out earlier today that my bow season is most likely over before it's even begun. Went to my cardiologist this afternoon and found out that I have to have a pacemaker put in. It seems that I have some issues with heart rate dropping into the 20's and pausing for a few seconds here and there. Now the procedure itself is nothing but I'm not supposed to lift my arms above my head for 7 weeks or lift anything over 2 lbs. I asked if I could bow hunt and she told me that it was iffy cause of the drawing of the bow and it being a 60 lb draw.......isn't that just great. But she also told me that if I gave a good solid week of doing exactly what I was told it might be possible. Looks like I am gonna have to start listening to a Dr's rules for once!! And the real pisser of it all.....I just turned 40 a couple of months ago

I have a couple of their Hoodies and I swear by them. Truly worth the price in book. Warmest sweatshirt I have ever worn

Good for you....I'm sure whoever gets one of your deer will be appreciative. It takes a special kind of person to help total strangers and u are one of them.

I gotta say that I have shot both. Went from 100gr Thunder heads when I first started archery hunting back in the mid 90's to now shooting 75gr Rocket Miniblaster's. These little ti y broadhead have an almost 2in cut and leave one hell of a HUGE hole when u take even the slightest 1/4ing shot. I have never lost any deer I have shot with these and watch most of them drop in sight. Last year I tried using the Torrid S'S cause I picked them up on clearance at the end of teh sea on for $5 a pack of 3 or something like that. Hit a doe 1/4ing away rigjt behind the shoulder half way up the body at 32yrds. Complete pass through but upon finding my arrow, the blades never opened and thus left almost nothing of a blood trail except drops. Luckily there was a little bit of snow on the ground to fi d her. The miniblaster on the other hand does use a rubber band but I have never had a problem with them the band's they come with are extremely loose fitting so they really only hold the blades closed while in the quiver. And since I hunt on a very tight budget, found 2 three packs on eBay for $30 total including shipping. They are normally $30 for EACH 3 pack. And they were brand new unopened packages. Couldn't beat it. Looking forward to this year and hopefully seeing what they will do to one of the bears we have roaming around

I shoot a 2011 Stinger 3g and I don't have any of the problems of being loud OR slow. I shoot 62#'s with 28.5" gold tips and am shooting right around 285-290fps, which in the case of some of the newer bows, yes its slow but it's MORE than accurate and more than enough to do the job. And loud? I can honestly say that I have never shot a bow than was as quiet as this one is. Maybe I just got lucky with mine. But to answer the original post. I shoot the 2011 PSE for my main bow then I have a 1996 PSE beast 4x4 for my back up. Now that thing is loud and slow. I thought about an Elite when I bought the newest PSE but couldn't justify that kind of money knowing that any well placed arrow with a sharp broadhead will kill a deer or bear. That 2011 PSE was $400 complete minus arrows. The only thing I have done to it was add my own paracord sling and am going to change the supplied whisker biscuit to a drop away that i took off my 2010 alpine b4 I gave to my cousins kid so he could hunt this year.

2014 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge
firehunter48 replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in 2014 HuntingNY Whitetail Challenge
What the hell....why not. I'm in -
Just curious as to what u are using as ur fetching colors and why u choose those particular colors? Rigjt now I am shooting 2 kelly green and 1 white, only because the guy gave me a deal cause he had them aleady made when I got them last year. Normally shoot 2 blaze orange and 1 white. No particular reason, just have literally shoot those same colors since I bought my first compound 25 years ago

Stack-On Gun Cabinets
firehunter48 replied to Elmo's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I have one as well and you are right about cutting into thirds. the other problem I have is that my Browning BPS with a 26" barrel willonly fit in one spot as the barrel is to long and wont fit in the spaces that are under the shelves so keep that in mind in you have any shotguns with a barrel of 26 or longer -
I use the 75gr Mini-Blaster from Rocket Brand (Trophy Ridge actually makes them) and I SWEAR by them. They ahve 1.75" cut and produce holes like you cant imagine. I have used other brands of mechanical and will never switch again, I have even used Rage and have nothing but bad luck with every other brand that I have tried with the exception of Rocket. I know that everyone has their own opinion and their own experiences but this is the brand that I trust......just my $.02

1ST....THANKS for all the input from you guys. I am really just curious about the size. It will NOT stop me from putting a Rocket Mini-blaster tipped Gold Tip or 165gr game king from the .308 through him. on another note....was talking to my father today who spoke to the neighbor down there who lives there full time. He was in the garage when he heard a noise on the other side of the house. Walked around to see what the noise was only to see a huge bear dragging his full size chest freezer that was completely full off of the porch into the yard. Dad asked him how big it was and he told Dad that it made the one we had on the trail cam (the pics i posted) look like a cub........ Like I said in the original post, I have NEVER seen a live bear in the wild. Now I am kinda wondering if I am going to crap myself if either one of these 2 step out in front of me.......NERVOUS AS HELL!!!! I am also hoping that i am able to make the shot if its presented and not screw it up
