Hey there everyone.....been a while since i have posted but since the season is coming back around, I figured I should get back into the swing of things and start asking and giving my $.02 again. SO.........with that being said, we have been seeing a ton of tracks and even more piles of scat around the Cabin and property (Bolivar NY--9x-y area) in the past 4-5 months (or so) and we finally caught the big guy on camera. Lucky for me, who has been bear hunting in very deep northern Ontario twice, Adirondacks 5 times in which three of them were to hunt, and been in the woods for almost 30 years in general and has STILL NEVER seen a live bear outside of a zoo, these pictures were taken 27yds directly in front of my tree stand. My question to all of you out in the cyber woods is how big do u think he is.........not that i really care at this point since i know he is more than adequate enough in size to shoot. These pics are both of the same animal taken together just different angles as he is walking

I choose a single shot because I PERSONALLY do not think that it is good for the spring inside a shotgun tube will hold up over a long period of time and will eventually fail in one way or another. I also choose the single shot as I don't think it is good or safe to keep a round in the chamber of a pump gun nor semi auto for that matter in front of a firing pin being held by a spring or piece of metal that can and will fail at some point releasing the firing and striking the primer like its intended to do. With the single, one is in the chamber but there is no pressure on the firing pin until the hammer is pulled back. I would have gone for the side by side with dual hammers but the single was a housewarming gift

as much as the logic behind makes complete and total sense, let me ask you this...........its the middle of the night and someone has just broken into your home where your wife (or husband for you ladies on here) and your KIDS are sleeping. They are there to do GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT to you and your family. After you call 9-1-1, you decide to engage the "alledged" criminal only to find that they have a knife or something else that they intend to hurt you or your family with. WHat do you want to have in your hand?? A tiny little 22 that MAY or MAY NOT stop them from hurting someone in the house or somethign like a larger caliber handgun with a Glaser safety slug or a shotgun with a turkey load of #4's? You know very well that the later two of 3 will stop them in their tracks neutralizing the threat so why grab a 22? Im sorry but when it comes to the safety of my family, I will choose the 12ga Ithaca Single Sot Model 66 loaded with a 3" load everytime JUST MY 2cents

Permit application question....
firehunter48 replied to firehunter48's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
thanks for the help everyone.... it is not for a carry permit.....i liive in ERIE county. that may not ever happen in this county. but didnt know if it would impact in any way or not And NO, its not a mental thing, its all ortho issues -
I don't know if any of u can answer this or not but......I live in lovely (sarcasm) Erie County. Im planning on alloying for my pistol permit after the new year. Does the fact that I am permanently disabled help me get approved or will hurt me? I have no record of any kind and no arrests. I am not worried about the background portion. Was just curious as to everyone's thoughts

As i am aware that there may be some crap given for this choice but check out Guide Gear brand from the sportsmans guide. You can find light weight, middel weight, and boots as much as 2400gr from them all for under $100. Believe it or not, these boots are not bad for the money. Right now i won a pair of 800gr and have more than satisfied with them. and in the spring i am going to order a pair of the 2400gr for colder weather. The BEST thing about this brand and the company is that they give you a lifetime warranty. I have sent my boots back after 6months becasue i did not liek the way they fit, i ordered a size to narrow. called them, they told me to send them bcak and asked me what i wanted in replacement.....NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I go tturned on to them from my father as he has only been using guide gear for years. You can send their products back to them, at anytime, for any reason, and within a week, you have a brand new pair, no questions asked. after 2 years, i doscovered the hard way that my boots have a pin hole in them. i called them up, told them, they told me that after i was done with the season, if it could wait, to send them in and they'll send out a new pair. their boots are warm, dry, and i honestly can tell you they are my go to shoe whether i am hunting or even running to the store

I agree with everyone when telling you to go to a pro shop and shoot as many as you can. I too did that and had the same exact budget that you did. I ended up ordering a PSE Stinger 3g PACKAGE staright from the PSE factory. The price was $399.99. it came complete ready to shoot minus arrows, including the whisker bisquit and sights you would like. the only thing i changed off of it was the bow sling and thats only becasue i make my own. I shoot mine at 60lbs with a 28.5" draw with gold tip velocity hunter 300 spine. I have it chrono'd at 290fps with 85 gr tips. Shoot as many as you can but keep this in mind, that you can get brand new straight from the factory. the ONLY thing I do not like about this bow is the weight. it is a tad heavier than most but truly does the job on a deer when you let one fly just my $.02

the maps are really nice but they are FAR from recent. I just looked up our propertry in Bolivar. It does not show the barn we built after buying the property. We built the barn FIVE YEARS ago.....far from recent

UTV or camo'ed out golf cart????
firehunter48 replied to fu2lmao's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
We had a Polaris electric UTV......biggest P.O.S. ever!!! Had it for one season then traded it back in on a gas one. All sorts of problems with the charging system and had to fill the batteries after every use. Bought the gas one and put one of those muffler silencers on it and the deer can literally care less -
i am on the south buffalo west seneca border.....send me a pm and i will try to work something out where we can sit and shoot the breeze and possibly take a walk in your hunting area sometime

Hey everyone......hope someone will be able to help me out here. I have recently had some pretty nasty back issues and am no longer able to sit in my old reliable metal ladder stand because it was to uncomfortable with the back issues. My father built me this really nice large wooden stand a couple of months ago(all fresh PT lumber, more solid than then the ladder stand) that is large enough that i can put a chair in to be more comfortable and put it in the same spot. The deer are beyond used to it by now as we have trial cam pics of deer literally standing at the base of the ladder. Wasnt able to find a chair that I liked to fit my needs in the satnd that would be small enough so ended up making one out of scrap 2x4's from the garage. So to take the "shine" out of the wood, I sprayed it with flat black and a couple squirts of white to break it up a little bit. The big question I have is, how the hell do I get the spray paint odor out of it? I just sprayed it with Scent-a-way and hoping that'll help but am unsure as to what the results will be. ANY suggestions on how to get it to stop smelling like spray paint?

A friend of mine has these available and thought of me when she found them. She has more of them and I told her that i would put it on here to see if anyone would be interested. She, like all of us, is a HUGE advocate for the gov't NOT taking our rights away from us and is proud to show it. There arre two versions of this as you can see in the pictures. One has the "AK" style of weapon on the bottom, and the other has the "AR" on the bottom. I personally, do not like the pistol on the top so I will be cutting that portion off and moving it to the lower portion of the sticker when i put in on my truck. You can either do the same or not put it on period. You can get one of these for $7.00 so if you would like to get one of these, just send me a private message telling me what style, color you would like and how many. I can take payment through paypal or by check through mail. I will give you the payment information at the time of order and we will get it out to you as soon as we can. They are available in ALMOST any color (basic colors...)for an additional $1 (one dollar) and that is only because the color vinyl sheets are extra money.

I have an extra DMP for unit 9A. I know there is a thread for trading DMP's but I am not looking for a trade. I shot a little 3 point on opening day and my father shot a doe which I got a lot of the meat from. So between that and the elk he shot, my freezer is as about as full as it can get without going out and buying a dedicated freezer. If you are interested and can ACTUALLY use the tag, it is yours for the signing over. The ONLY thing i am asking for in return is that you actually use it and would love to see it go to a younger or new hunter who has not had the chance to harvest anything yet. Either way, it's yours if you want it and will actully use it. I live in S. Bflo and would prefer face to face pick up but mail will work as well. reply on here and we will go from there first come first served

FINALLY!!!!! mission accomplished. 7:18 i finally seen what i was hearing for 15 minutes. thought for sure it was a doe until he got about 55-60 yards and put the gun on it and found horns. Little bastard didn't want to die even with a 165 grain game king out of a .308 in his chest but went down on the 2nd shot at 85 yards. Nothing major, just a 3 point but with no luck during archery, he will fill the freezer nicely

We are in bolivar and go into portville on a regular basis to go to spragues for dinner. kmart in wellsville didn't have it so just went with doe in estrus for now till i get home. like i said...first we have seen any chasing. it was a decent 8 bugging the shit out if a doe so lets see what the afternoon has to offer. finally stopped raining and looks like decent afternoon

Finally am seeing the first signs of any rutting activity in 9x after many many days in the stand. Was wondering if any of you have tried a scrape dripper like the one Wildlife Research makes and if so what were your results? Wife is going to the store while i am in the woods (first time in a pop up blind too btw) and was thinking about putting it out this afternoon near my ladder stand so it will be there for the rest of the weekend and for opening day. And i don't know who was more startled...the squirrel trying to come in the blind or when i seen it. probably would have turned out bad if he made it all the way in

They went to Royal Rut Outfitters. They both said that as nice as the hunt was in general, neither one of them would go back. there were a lot of safety issues that they were both unhappy with whcih the owner did not want to seem to take care of and promises that were never delivered. i/we understand that not all promises can be delivered but when you tell your prospective clients that the camp has a place to butcher and bone meat and then give you attitude when you ask them where is is after they tell you it would $550 for them to do it for you, itsnt really right in my opinion

So my father and Uncle decided a while back that they would DRIVE to Utah from Buffalo so they could elk hunting. Not really a major ordeal but my father is pushing his mid 60's with mild to moderate health issues and my uncle is in his mid to late 60's with some pretty decent health issues and like to fall asleep while driving!! So with that being said and my ENTIRE family still pissed at them both for doing it, they made it back safe and sound last night so i was "fortunate" enough, yes that was sarcasm in a way, to butcher an elk all day. Thankfully they were already boned out and he gave me a crap load of meat since they arent really that small of an animal.....at least now some of the pressure is off to fill the freezer with deer meat. My father is the one wearing the hat in the pic and he took a large 7x5 at 360 yards, which is apparently normal distance out there according to the guides. The eye guards on him are less than 3/4 of an inch from touching and also has some sort of knuckle on his left main beam near the base where it looked like he had an extra main beam of some kind that broke off. My uncle, non hat bald guy, took a large 6x6 with a drop tine on the ride side. His fourth point on both sides are flattened out so they are actually like knife blades which is pretty cool and had never seen before now. A lot of meat which isnt going to go to waste and might add.....is pretty damn tasty

i jsut use a simple ladder hanger for the garage. Not the ones that are curved into a semi circle but the ones that have a 3-4 inch straight piece one them between the screw and the part that acts as a "catch" to holds the "ladder" from slipping off the end. I dont buy the expensive ones from home depot though. i usually try to find the ones from the discount stores that way i/we have them in every stand that we have on the property with out spending hardly any money. i usually leave them in the tree for a couple of seasons them i will replace them becasue the rubber coating starts to fall of and i dont want to scratch my baby. simple, cheap, and lasts for quite a while. would last a lot longer if i took them out after every season

My mother helps my father pack and pushes him out the door, she says buying the land 5 years ago was the best thing that could have happened for their marriage. she loves deer season so she can get all her christmas shit done like shopping and decorating without having to listen to my father b!tch about it all. on the other hand, my wife helps my pack as well, but she does so she can make sure i put all of HER clothes in the wash and rubbermaid totes as well and dont "accidently" forget her stuff
