growalot
Went out to check the card board shooting house....mice are nesting in floor...eating the poison...but I thought I noticed horse nettle on a huge patch not far away...went to grab a hand full to yank out and it was stinging nettle!!!!!! WTH...my hand and arm feel like I stuck them in a bee hive....took a Benadryl (sp?)when I got home...just took a second to realize my mistake ...looked around and the whole area is loaded with it...this is another new invasive on the scene....bad enough the Chinese garlic showed up...knock on wood ..may have purple night shade under control....had none of this until all the logging started 10yrs ago Edited July 2, 2012 by growalot

dave6x6
I got into some while scouting the new 70 acres a week ago. Not sure what type of nettles it was. Had long pants on ( the light weight turkey hunting trek-lite stuff) Following the creek bottom, i found myself surrounded and tangled up and the stinging started. Slowly made myself to the creek and jumped in to my hips to try and relieve the itch and burn. Then i had to get back out and through it to go home. If someone had a video of my splashing around rubbing my legs with this agony looking expression on my face, it would have looked pretty funny. By the way, i couldn't believe it but there were large patches of this stuff grazed down by the deer i'm assuming. Can't believe something would put this stuff down their throat. growalot
Yep calamine lotion and Benadryl...the stinging is from histamine being injected into the skin from the "hairs" on the plant....Actually they say if cut dried down that it is pretty high in protein and vitamin C and A...it is good eaten young and cooked for humans...the stinging goes away after just a few minutes cooked.... a staple in the spring for Native Americans and used as a healing herb....wasn't feeling too healing to me ....Glad your OK Dave...not a fun time for sure...my hand and are itched all night Edited July 3, 2012 by growalot
