Planting large fruit trees

Can I plant large fruit trees this time of year? They are crab apples and pear that are nursery size,8' range. The crabs are loaded with apples already. The price is good and I have access to a small back hoe. I'm thinking 2 of each to start. Thing is,I won't be there to keep them watered.I have the pellets that hold water to put in the holes first and also have the spikes for in the ground that hold 2ltr soda bottles. I can also mulch around them. I would only be there for 2 days after planting.

Don't want to waste $ so any info would help. (they will be in direct sun)

I would not recommend leaving them without someone to water them. Other years, maybe, but with this drought, they will need water every day for awhile. Hire a local kid to keep them wet.

You will stress them out if u plant now. Wait till the fall.

What if I planted them near a spring where it is always "wet" ,by that I mean away from it some,not in the very wet soils?

Can I keep them in the large pots till fall,will they stay good till then?

Definately would wait myself epspecially if you cant keep them watered. With this drought any added stress to the rootball and tree would no be good. Where these grown in large pots or do you have to dig them up? If in them already they have been in them for a long time already and waiting till fall wont hurt them. If in the ground already I would leave them be if it was me.

They were grown in large pots.That is where they will stay then,till fall.

best bet is wait till fruit and leaf drop in fall and then plant.. good that they are in pots leave them there for now, and keep them watered..

I agree, gettin close to fall Leavem potted n keep em wet!
