Any idea what kind of grass this is growing here? Also do you think throw and grow / no plow crap could work next year if I round-up the area? Its way to rocky to get the disc in there, so I was thinking attempting that no plow stuff to get some more stuff growing other then weeds. Any suggestions? P.S. there are a ton of ferns around as well, I didnt get a picture of that.

Sorry crappy picture, I thought it was clearer, apparently not!

Ferns usually mean acidic soil - that to me would be a red flag. I'd worry about amount of sunlight, too, there. Ferns can sometimes indicate that as well.

It's a time and effort thing. Throw and grow commerical bags are mostly ryegrass...waste of time really. The only throw and grow I have looked at that was remotely interesting was believe it or not....Wildgame Innovations...couldn't believe it. Oats, clover, etc. No ryegrass.

Can't tell what the grass is.... phade is right with the ferns = low ph.

You could nuke it with gly, get the tatch off and try some clover. Any seed that is top sowed can be done like this... it just needs soil contact. Brassicas.. same thing. But the lack of light I would try clover..

Genric gly is cheap... ladino clover is around $5 pound.. buy it at a seed and feed store.. cheaper than buck on the bag varities.
