Unusual tactics you've used to bring deer in closer?

When hunting during the day...that's to say not getting into stand way before light and waiting..but going in after day light....I'll take a very strong scented candles...vanilla...cherry...apple..ect...and place them 10yrds out around the tree...mind you clearing leaves and they are in sturdy little jars...the smell makes the deer curious enough to come in for a shot...

Knowing that some ppl in area bait...I once dyed some wood chips yellow and put them out..used food dye...bagged them up...sure enough I had squirrel turkey and yes deer....but didn't find that much fun so won't do it again...worked though...curiosity I suppose brought them in or conditioning...

One I use a lot is the bobbin head turkey decoy...deer really come in to it....security I think...

So what have any of you tried...there has to be something...we have so many idol hours on stand to think...lol

I sometimes spray vanilla extract or apple juice concentrate on some trees around the stand. I have apple orchards bordering part of my property and also have several scattered crabapple trees around. It helps cover my scent and the deer are attracted to the smell also.

Ya I may not get many fall turkey but they help me get deer...lol...Alshiemer some years ago did an experiment...they put out red and green apples and the deer gravitated toward the green apples...not sure if any of you remember that...so...being crafty at the time ..and not being a "Well known" accountant/ Deer expert...OK that was snarky...and being able to experiment with bait piles...yep snarky again..I'll stop...I thought about plastic Easter eggs....bought those long "mesh socks filled with them...picked out the green and yellow eggs..donated rest to kinder-garden class....I then took them out and threw them under a none producing apple tree...had two rolled away buy squirrels... a fox snatched one up and ran and yep got some curious doe to come in ...spooked but had I wanted I could have dropped them...Another one of those ya it worked but wheres the fun?...other than watching those squirrels.....Even I can't really see the difference between that and a turkey decoy or scented candles...actually use Yankee air fresheners more now.... but I suppose it's just wired into MY OWN HEAD that sitting over a pile of anything isn't as challenging for me..with scents...it's 50/50 they may or may not spook and run for the hills on any given day..if the wind doesn't move my decoy they may hang on the edge of the woods until dark...then I end up having to spook them because if I don't get the decoy ...I know a fox or yote will..so it's a gamble sometimes

As far as cover scents I like to take blk walnut husks put them in clean onion mesh bags...tie a string to the bag...get to where I walk in stomp the bag with my boots and drag it behind me....leaves that walnut scent which is strong and helps mask mine

i want to try the turkey decoy. When i first started hunting i was told that deer and turkey work together. The deer have the hearing and smelling. The turkey have the sight. When a turkey is calm and plucking away at the ground the deer will hang out.A calm turkey and calm deer is a safe wood. That decoy will help that deer be calm.
