Pipecrew
Wow, looks like you are on to something there. What are you using for scent(s)???
phade
Is cedar common in the area? Seems promising for sure.

sampotter
Cedar is not all that common. There is one spot where there are 10-15 mature trees. The idea is to put a licking branch and possible rub tree in a conspicuous spot. The bucks can't seem to be able to resist it. I read about it in a Steve Bartylla article a few years ago. I didn't use any scent. It appears that the opportunity is enough and now that bucks have worked the set there is all the scent i need. mxsmitz201
what did you do saw off a hefty branch of cedar and stick it into the ground? if so, i dont believe i have any cedar trees around unless i nab one from my neighbors hedgerow haha so im going to my local hardware store and buying a 4x4 cedar post and clipping some cedar branches and wiring them up to the post for licking branches. sampotter
Pretty much- I cut one tree down and cut it in half. The angled "post" was the top. I tried to find some cedar posts to buy but couldn't find any. Next year I may have to replace the branches, but the post will hopefully still be good. mxsmitz201
thats awesome, i dont have any cedar growing naturally around here hope i find some at the hardware store.
sampotter
The only real reason to use cedar is that the post should last several years. The critical thing is not to contaminate it with human stink. Needs to be conspicuos and have a licking branch shoulder height or lower to a 6' man. Deerthug
Good idea. Curious as to what that thing was that looked like some feathers that came into view from the right of the camera at the 1:03 and 1:10 mark?

Buckstopshere
In the last couple years, does seemed to come in to the mock scrapes where I had my trail cams, pretty hard, just before the rut peaked. They don't paw the ground, but they sure like the overhanging branch!
