sampotter
It appears that B+C has changed their stance. Nyantler- I'm sure you will be interested in this article. http://www.deerandde...47&rid=68358559 Edited August 31, 2012 by sampotter
HectorBuckBuster
That is cool. I see the hunter that shot this great buck sold the antlers off though.

sampotter
Too bad to sell them, but perhaps he needed the money. Doesn't sound like he was really into antlers anyway. Glad to see B+C use their heads. Embarassing that they would fire 2 long-time much-respected scorers because they disagreed with a ruling. G-Man
I liked the video where the one scorers shows how he determined it to be a seperate point. Glad they are looking at it again.... now about the rompola buck...

Glad they are looking at it again.... now about the rompola buck... YES G-man! I am eagerly awaiting developments. Remember that Rompola allegedly agreed to sign an affadavit saying he would not enter his book in B+C as long as the Hanson buck was the WR? Nyantler- I'm sure you will be interested in this article. http://www.deerandde...47&rid=68358559 Yeah I heard about it and talked to some of the people involved... as for the scorers fired.. they were let go because of how they handled their opposition.. not because they had a difference of opinion... they took it upon themselves to circumvent club protocol about how to handle a potential world record. It will be nice to see how this plays out... a new world record would be exciting...
nyantler
I must say that it is entirely possible that the panel comes up with the original determination that the point in question is of a common base, which may still keep the King buck from the world record. Whatever happens.. it will be final and the controversy will be over. The other point I would like to make is that everyone talks about "the well respected scorers" that help us get to this panel scoring, but Jack Reneau is as well respected as any scorer for B&C... thats why he heads up the organization... how people have portrayed him over this ordeal is strictly subject to their position on the King buck... I can tell you that Jack has scored more animals than many of the well respected scorers put together.. just something to keep in mind. I can also assure you that he has no personal agenda when it somes to a potential world record being entered into the record book... plus he was not the only person for B&C that made the original determination... the buck was examined by 3 other well respected measurers... that came to the same determination. All that said.. it still will be exciting entertaining a new world record typical whitetail.
MountainHunter
I would love to see this buck become the WR and then have Mitch come out and say here is my buck, measure it, panel score it, xray it. Do what ever you want. That would set the whitetail world on it's ear. I personally don't like the sensationalism and the money side of glorifying trophy hunting but the above described scenario would be interesting! I personally don't like the sensationalism and the money side of glorifying trophy hunting but the above described scenario would be interesting! I think I have mentioned this before, but clubs like P&Y, B&C and the State Record Books were never intended as a glorification of trophy hunting... they are merely a record of exceptional bucks taken all over the world for deer hunting enthusiasts like you and me to enjoy for generation to come.. hunters themselves have created the glorification by thinking that recording these bucks has anything to do with their personal hunting prowess. Bucks like the Jordan, Hanson, and King Bucks are exceptional in the whitetail world.. the hunters not necessarily so exceptional. It has never been about the hunter or any kind of competition as far as the clubs are concerned... simply a record of exceptional bucks for all to see. Hunter have created the sensationalism and glorification of trophy hunting.
sampotter
Knew you'd have a comment Joe. It's interesting- the way the D+DH article makes it sound- B+C is insisting that it is measured as a typical? If true it means that they have already ruled it not to be a common base point. Sounds like more of agreeing on a score than anything else.

Sounds like more of agreeing on a score than anything else. Yeah I kind of got that from the article too... if thats the case I think we have a new world record. I'm wondering how many past scored bucks will petition for a rescore based on common point decisions of the past... they may have opened a whole new can of worms here. What I don't understand is that the buck was always scored as a typical, just with an abnormal point. I don't see how anyone thinks it was scored as a non-typical that knows anything about scoring. The whole thing is rather confusing... I don't like just getting the D&DH take on all this... it's always best when a world record goes in without controversy. I think that the record will forever be tainted after all thats gone on... that is sad. Yet, nobody can ever doubt the exceptional rack on this buck regardless of it's score. sampotter
As I remember they had scored it as a typical but called both G3s abnormal and deducted them from the net. It didn't make sense but I read it more than once.

It didn't make sense but I read it more than once. Yes thats how it works... but D&DH keeps saying it was scored as a non-typical.. which isn't correct. I thought I'd pass on why I think the original B&C decision was correct... this pic of the king buck point in question explains it quite clearly. Each point should come into the green line at the same point not different points to be typical. This pic illustrates where the original decision got it's basis..
