This is my first season bow hunting, I was out yesterday in Calverton and did see alot of movement. I couldnt get a shot off due to them being out of range. How is everyone else making out? im contemplating getting a tree stand this weekend, I was in a blind this weekend. For some reason i couldnt get them closer then 50yds, i think alot had to do with being in a blind. Anyone have any suggestions on what type of stand i should purchase? If anyone else out there is new to Bow hunting and would like to maybe go hunt together sometime, im all for it.

You should probably go online, say Cabelas for instance, and check out the climbing stands. These are probably a better choice for you as opposed to a hang on stand because of their packability and mobility, assuming you're hunting on public land. Lone Wolf and Summit are pretty popular choices but there are plenty others. Be sure to check how much weight each stand is rated to hold if you are a bigger fellow. Don't forget to look into getting a safety harness either! Good luck and do your homework.

I have a summit viper and love it...easy to climb, pack and comforatable to site in. I have sat all day many times. The only draw back is that if the deer is too close sometime you may have trouble with the bow limb hitting the upper bar (But i don;t mind as when the gun season comes that make an awesome rest).

Summit makes a nice climber. A few companies used to make portable, light weight ladder stands, which were great for gettting into any size tree. Sadly, I haven't beeen able to find anyone making them anymore. If you decide to get a self-climber, look into a good safety harness, if you aren't use to climbers. And Welcome to bowhunting.!!
