sits in trees
What are you guys feelings on Romney/Ryan's plans on completely changing a system (Medicare & S.S.) that the elderly have relied on for 50 years. I gotta say im really having my doubts about this voucher and privatization thing. And once its changed its gone folks?
Early
I think the programs in place work fine and should not be changed. A little better oversight to prevent fraud and waste would be nice, however.

Guns&ReligionCop
Regulation of medicade so there money left over for medicare. If you ask a majority of people in Brooklyn, Bronx, uptown Manhattan between the age of 18-45 and their caring NYS Benefit cards. Start restricting that and you will have plenty of money for the elderly.
mxsmitz201
Im all for it, living in the US is all about making choices and is also what drives a free market economy, competition is needed to provide the best service. Government controling my healthcare just does not sit well with me. Why my ancestors immigrated here in the first place was to have a choice in matters. Medicare is one of the finest health systems in the world, it has helped millions of older Americans to live healthy lives and be able to keep what they worked for their whole lives. The free market economy thing you mentioned would be much like the private for profit health insurance industry that is killing Americans today, with ever increasing cost, ever decreasing benefits. My ancestors also came from another country, one where old people got sick and just died because they ran out of money?

Im pretty sure thats the scare tactics certain people or groups would have you believe because they wanna do away with the system. Without getting too specific the same group that fought Medicare back when it was first introduced...
Felonious_Monk
They should both be abolished.

Too many people benefit from it that shouldn't, and the politicians keep stealing from it. That's why some originally opposed it and that's why it's going to go away. That's not a scare tactic, that's a fact. What the politicians will do to prevent a failure is raise your taxes to cover what they stole. That will also allow them to keep stealing. Why Americans are stupid enough to let that keep happening is the question.

I'm not sure it's that Americans are stupid enough to let it keep happening, it's that all politicians care about is getting re-elected and taking on Medicare will have a political backlash. Look at this election, both candidates keep talking about how the other one wants to cut or change medicare because they know it is unpopular. So we end up with two unsavory candidates to choose from, neither of which will actually do anything about it once they get into office. At some point these issues need to be taken on and it will result in tough decisions, but as long as money buys elections I don't see it happening. Grouse
True. But many don't realize the money that buys elections is our tax dollars used by politicians to pay for entitlements and thereby buy votes. They tax us and use our money to get re-elected. d-bone20917
Agreed. It is very frustrating.
