this is an email i recived this morning:

Dear Fellow New Yorker,

Today, Governor Cuomo signed the NY SAFE (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) Act – groundbreaking legislation that will put in place the toughest gun laws in the nation to better protect our residents from senseless gun violence, while respecting the rights of legal gun owners and sportsmen.

The NY SAFE Act includes provisions to:

Ban the sale of assault weapons;

Require mental health professionals to report to local mental health officials when they believe a patient is likely to engage in behavior that is dangerous to themselves or others;

Make New York the first state in the nation to ban any magazine that can hold more than seven rounds and run instant background checks on all ammunition purchases at the time of sale;

Track ammunition sales in real time to alert law enforcement to high volume purchases;

Create a statewide standard requiring recertification of pistol permits every five years;

Ensure that private sales of guns are subject to a background check; and,

Toughen criminal penalties on those who use illegal guns including measures to help combat gang violence.

The bill balances the urgent need to both crack down on these lethal weapons and keep our communities safe, while still ensuring that sportsmen and other legal gun owners have access to the guns to which they are entitled.

I can't find the part where is outlaws semi-automatic weapons and that people should expect the boogie man to be knocking on their doors to collect all firearms.

as far as i know they classify an AR-15 as an "assault weapon"

i would very much like to have a word with the "voting majority" since whoever that is is completly stupid for voting him in....

Recant your statement.

And calling ~2,750,000 of your fellow New Yorkers (~1,600,000 of which do not live in NYC) completely stupid, is...well, completely stupid.

No he's right we are surrounded by stupidity. Heard female co-worker this morning saying how she agreed with Cuomo and no one should have machine guns! I just kept walking because your not getting through to people like that.

I disagree with your views when they are stupid. Have you ever seen an anti-firearms law that you didn't like? It seems any law that passes to INFRINGE on firearms rights is OK with you, as I have never seen you post against one. Why is that?

i know what an assault weapon is, and i happen to know it does NOT fit their deffinition of it.... an AR-15 is NOT an assault weapon

I disagree with your views when they are stupid. Have you ever seen an anti-firearms law that you didn't like? It seems any law that passes to INFRINGE on firearms rights is OK with you, as I have never seen you post against one. Why is that?

Of course I have. I'm not crazy about having to register my long arms in the city, but I still obey the law. If they had proposed a ban of semi-automatic rifles, I would have been very upset and I would have made some calls and sent some letters. But they didn't. The magazine size thing is silly (3 rounds difference...really?), but you can still possess the same 10 round magazines you had before. I may not love everything else, but at least I can see some potential benefits coming from it.

I had a conversation at work with a woman on monday night that felt that no one should be able to automatic weapons I explained to her that they are already illegal unless you get a tax stamp from the ATF and only a few states actually allow you to get that tax stamp she then stated that news is making it seem like the government is trying to ban fully automatic weapons and she didn't have a problem with people owning semi autos. I told her that was the problem the government and media is making it look like they are only taking machine guns away from the people when machine guns have been illegal since 30's. they are counting on the fact the public will just think they are getting rid of machine guns and that they will get away with it and it is working. she then said that the ar15 that was just on news is the same automatic weapon the military uses and it is only good for killing. I informed her that they look similar but the ar15 is only semi automatic automatic. she asked what is the problem then it is the same as my ex husband 30-06 and she was not very impressed with the tactics the government and media are using to try and accomplish their goals.

they slyly trick people into thinking they are doing it "for there good" in my opinion if its for my good let me do it i can handle it better than some politician....
