Unfired gun.

The other day I was in a local gun shop when I over heard a guy mention that he had an old High Standard .22 pistol, in the original box and that the pistol was "Unfired".

I have always wondered ...how can you tell if a gun is unfired? Cant you have a gun that is in perfect condition, but has been fired and well cleaned? How do you know?

Isn't most guns fired by the manufacturer for testing/inspection before it goes out for sale?

Yeah ....thats what I mean...I assume collectors would let the test fire slide but how do you know for sure if the previous owner shot it or not?

I think it is just a bit of a sales ploy to say the same as "mint in the box" and really doesn't matter much as long as it is in perfect shape??

I bet they want a fortune for it.......
