growalot
Being one of those few days a year I was actually frightened about going down in the woods to feed the chickens...wild out...decided seeing I was bundled up anyways....... I'd grab the cam and Angel and walk the edges along the food plots...got some pics... a couple of trees I dropped the other day and the radish plot...some under water clover...we'll see how that fairs this spring and of course Angel...she caught me snapping her pic...Just consider this a break from gun laws and deer management... Doc
Grow- I notice in most of your pictures, all the trees are kind of small .... no big old oaks and maples and such. Whats the history of your land? Was that all farmed at one time? Or maybe a forest fire? Everything looks the same age.
wooly
Just consider this a break from gun laws and deer management... We need that every now and then... glad you found an escape! Distractions like this is what keeps me sane some days. ... but walking around out there today in this wipping wind and bitter wind chills is plain CRAZY,lol
growalot
We have a real mix of big timber and young maples...this was a farm ...The farmer we bought from retired and could not get any of his 13 off spring to work the land...one son just mowed a small area near the road...Behind that and up the hill is mature timber that he logged and the loggers raped the area.....That is on the south side of the road...where the house is on the north we are older timber and then steep hill side with 6 streams that open up half way through the property draining into swamp land....lots of beech....cherry birch...witch hazel young pine and maples and a lot of standing dead ash....The pics below is an area that we logged 10 years ago Oooppps...PS...actually a lot of seriously big old oaks and many of various ages and sizes..only reds in this area...go across the valley and they have whts...go figure...any how at last count I have 200 red Oaks about a third of them are producing well...one area I call the oak flats Edited January 31, 2013 by growalot
