TeeBugg
im going back and forth in my mind about using decoys tomorow. if i did im not sure if i should use a jake and two hens, jake and one hen, two hens by themselves....help!
Fantail
Sometimes it depends on how much junk your willing to carry with you. The old intruder jake coming into a feeder hen is usually a safe bet. I don't like any decoy that looks to alert.
TeeBugg
ive got the cherokee sports inflatables so its not too much extra to carry. i may take a jake and two hens and decide when i get there.
Five Seasons
i've heard enough from good turkey hunters that say 2 hens is where it's at. If you're experienced a jake is good too, but even then not to bring out the toms. I'm leaving my tom and jake at home and bringing 2 hens. TeeBugg
thats pretty much what ive always used. one or two hens but thought i might switch it up this season. all 3 will probably go with me...gametime decision
Cabin Fever
If the kids are with me, and I know that shooting a jake is a possibility, I won't use a jake or tom decoy anymore. Had not-so-good experiences with them in the past. Even though I use a jake decoy, the incoming jakes act very timid. They want to come into the hen decoys bad, but I think they are afraid of getting a whoopin'! After seeing this again during the youth season, I'm only using hen decoys from now on! JMO... growalot
In in the same boat...so far I've only seen that one stupid jake...and the long beard on camera...totally different areas..I did move cam so will check the other site this afternoon...The jake has been strutting around all by himself..which I kinda don't understand...no gobbles ..no other birds ...just him in full strutt..makes me laugh...any how the long beard only had one hen I caught on cam...so I worry he may not come in to a jake or spook?? TeeBugg
ive had about 50\50 success with a jake. sometimes ive seen mature birds go the other way from a jake and hen. then again ive seen em run right in to kick some tail too. its a toss up for me. but leaning towards two hens, one walking one feeding. figure that might get them interested! growalot
Yep was hoping perhaps this type of set up would have them fly my way instead of down hill tomorrow...but I hunt strictly open woods....so I'm not sure they'd see them...which is why I added the tail to him.... landtracdeerhunter
I'm taking 2 bobble head Featherlite hens, maybe a nonalert jake. It's gotta work.
