New here! Question about shotgun scopes!

Hey guys. I'm going to buy a Vortex. Not sure whether to get the 1.5-4x32 or the 2-7x32. The 1.5-4 has 4.5" eye relief. The 2-7 says it has 3.2-4.5" What does this mean when they give a range like that?

Id go with the 2-7. Im not 100% on the eye relief numbers, but I can imagine it would have to do with what power the scope is set on at the time. Someone else will have the answer for you on that though.

The new Redfield Revolution  scopes are great.  I'd get the 2x7 power for a shotgun.

Making sure the shotgun is firmly planted in your shoulder pocket when you shoot will help more than a longer eye relief.  Most scope eye cases happen when shooting off a bench and the butt pad slips down on the shoulder under recoil.  This allows the scope to come back at you.

Thanks guys. Damn I'm torn between the Vortex Crossfire  2-7x32 and the Redfield Revolution 2-7x33. Both have awesome lifetime warranties. The Redfield is $20 more.

I don't know if the Redfield is for shotguns. I find no mention of it on their site or anywhere else online. I looked on their scope rings charts and it has the proper rings for rifles but no shotguns.

Fellas. I've been doing a lot of research on scopes. I couldn't find any information of the Redfield's performance with shotguns. But, I just found that the Vortex Vipers 2-7x32 are on sale for $170. Seems like a great deal considering they are normally $260 and the Crossire 2-7 is $115. I think I'm gunna pull the trigger on one.

Well - how did the Viper do in the swamp?

Well, I never got a shot on a deer but the scope was great. Very clear, never fogged and I could see through it until pretty much pitch black. I dropped my gun once and smacked the scope pretty good so I put a few rounds through it and it didn't move at all. Can't wait to use the combo again next year.
