catfishing trip

entered the catfish derby this year, was on the board for a while

 

had a youth on board who was on the board till the end and got bumped

 

we stayed awake, with lines in the water for 24 hrs straight, that was rough

 

my buddy thought he had the winner, until it came up 25# carp

 

 

 this was my best of the night

 

 

someone forgot the cooking utensils

it took about 30min to get it in, did 2 laps around the boat before we landed it, the river current was pretty bad that didn't help

I was bummed that I had to miss it this year. Got called into work on Saturday.

 

That's a nice fat-lip catty! Do you know what the winning fish weighed? The Owego pennysaver usually has an article, but I haven't picked one up.

 

Back in 04 when we won the derby, I thought I had a couple giant cats on. One was a carp and the other was a huge snapping turtle. My brother caught the winning fish (13lb 12oz.)

thanks, the hat my brother had made, one of his bowling sponsers owns a shop

 

the winning fish, was around 12.6lbs second was 12.44

 

when I left I was told by the guy running things that 2 to 4 people were being DQ'd however they were not moving people back up, just going to role the money over to next year

 

1 guy got a fish from the catfish farm, and 2 or 3 guys caught theres on friday night

my brother had his boat just down from us, that made it evan better,

 

my buddies nephew came out until 11:30 he's only 10 and acted like an old pro, caught a couple nice 5 and 6lbs

 

whenever prize money gets up there someone will cheat, it's to bad

They do reserve the right to administer a ploygraph, which I think is good. Seems like there are always guys fishing the(Tioga County) derby in Broome County. I try to just shake my head and shrug it off, but it does irk me.

 The last time I fished the derby, the 3 top prize winners were all buddies. Somethin kinda fishy there??

They do have a good chicken BBQ at the weigh in!!!!

 Fish must be taken in Tioga County,NY on the Susquehanna river. 

The weigh in station is @ Hickories park in Owego,NY.

The derby is put on by the Owego VFW.

i recommend this derby, it was a great time. already looking forward to next year

Yep you're right! I had VFW on the mind. Gramps is an old nazi killer from way back, and also VFW commander.
