Over worked...

Recommended Posts

My old DR..... Weed whacking around the place this a.m. haven't been able to spray so every thing is out of control and I have a lot of area that needs cutting...ran the line down and now she wont start so.....

I'm taking the tractor and going out to disc up the first power plant plot...here that??? flush..swirl ...girgle...girgle

That was my money going down the drain...so I'm going to disc in what I hope is mostly annual weeds before they set seed  and what little beans and sorghum and sun flowers that came up 4 "....if the discing doesn't work..maybe the rain will stop long enough for me to spray  then disc and drag in a few weeks....

I pulled out my bag of seeds and have a few #'s of Alice and jumbo clovers and a couple of #'s of sainfoil...I think this annual plot will be going perennial this fall with a WW or WR or maybe forage companion

My frost seeding red clover did Not work, put it down in 5 different spots same seed,10 pounds, not cheap,Just before the last snow we had this year.

Did u work the seedbed the fall before? Try a germination test on the seed? Plant a cover crop to protect the young seedlings?

I have frost seeded  Mammoth and common red clover for 40+ years and have never had a failure. I like to put on frozen ground, as u tend t get a more even stand.

If you think you have your weeds under control and you give no less than  6 weeks before a frost to get a grip... then go with a fall planting...Now I frost seeded my WR and another small trail plot and it worked great with the Ladino  clovers...I'll get some pics up later...

If you are concerned about the fall try a double cropping of grain with the clovers and then do a light walk over frost seeding in the spring....

I don't normally... well ever recommend commercial seeds... and I've only tryied the WHTI and Tecomate...as you see I had to plow down the Power Plant...We 'll see how the second planting does...and I do like the braccs...but I planted Tecomate Max -Attract a couple of years ago....It was the best seed as far as commercial seed goes that I have ever planted...and Dang you just can't kill it...I've sprayed a few times disced  over and over  planted two other crops after it and still I have really healthy clover and chicory plants popping up...The deer hammered it as well...I tell you this because you could try that and add some of your own clovers...so many options...if timed right and weather doesn't..."mess"with ya...LOL

Gotta run...putting up a temp. 16x16sqr ft kennel...pup sitting for 2 weeks....and they will be here any time....
