Big Buck Scenario...What would u do??

This seems to happen a lot to me during bow season. I see a big buck walking thru the area at maybe 100yrds away, either walking across in front or in back of me or walking away from me. I make some calls but he doesn't commit.

 

What would u do? Nothing or make a call?

I don't hunt from a tree, so I would slowly spot n stalk as long as he is slowly walking.

Call! call loud! Try grunt, bleat, rattling horns, watch and observe it reaction It has to hear you maybe just a ear in your direction, or flick of tail. all have meanings

For me, depends on how things were playing out and how far along the season is.

 

 If it were late season after the rut I would try to stalk it. If it was still early season I would be happy to have seen it and hope for some better luck if I saw him again. And if it were rut season I would use a light rattle to make it sound like some smaller bucks, maybe a bleat.

 

But we all hunt different.

Typically I try with a few grunts with the buck merely stopping to look my direction then continuing on. Then ill try a couple bleats along with a couple more grunts, if that doesn't work then ill rattle. Usually I end up watching him walk away.

Last year the buck I killed I watched for a few hours in the AM running a does from one thicket to another,after he went into the thicket for the last time I climbed down out of my summit and moved the stand about 70 yards closer to where all the action was and climbed back up.It took me about 25 minutes to climb 15 foot or so because I wanted to take my time and be as quite as possible.After I got all settled in he came back out about a half hour later (all relaxed this time!!!HAHA) and was quartering away from me at about 100yards.I bleated at him 10-12 times with no response,then I grunted at him 4-5 times and again nothing,then I let out one loud deep grunt and he turned and looked my way.All of a sudden his hair on his back came up like a dog getting ready to fight and stiff leg walk to withing 8 yards of my stand....that was it for him.If I had just sit there all I would have done is watched him walk off,I pulled out the kitchen sink and let him have it all and he came in on a string.You may scare a buck or 2 here and there if your doing this but the rewards are really worth it.Don't be afraid to try some out of the box thinking when you see the bruiser next time.
