Well the wind blew again today, something new ::O . I got down out of the stand and decided to take a stroll quartering into the wind. I was slippin through a patch of thick pines, when I caught movement on the outside edge. It was a deer milling along had no clue i was there. I couldn't tell at that range whether it was an adult doe or button buck/ I got to 60 yds and looked at it  through the binos. Two tufts on his noggin. I decided to see how close I could get to him. Went from 60 to 36 yds. He'd raise his head I'd stop. Put his head down and I'd resume. I drew on him once. Saying come on mature in 5 minutes and get some bone on that noggin! ;) . Then he wheeled around and started my way. He walked by me at 20 yds got down wind and never caught me just kept on walkin. I snapped off some pics of the monster. If he stays on our property he'll be on some new turf next year and on his way up the ladder.

Was out last wednesday in sullivan county faced with rain climbed down from the stand and was walking and came across a deer approx 70 yards, flagged me and took off. I continued on the trail I was on thinking that I might cut him off, sure enough I see him and "stalk" with in 54 yards then he kept on going. Between the rain, and wind, and distance, no chance of a shot, but a lot of fun and if it was rifle season he would have been mine! Enjoy

Very cool!! That's exactly how I shot my very first bow deer(button buck) 13 years ago. Except that by the time I saw him he was 15 yds away. I was very impressed with myself. he ran about 20 yds and dropped( I was very "BAD TO THE BONE" at age 14) 8)

glad to hear that I'm not totally off base. second season out after a 20 year break in huntiung and the TV shows focus on food plots and land set ups not really seen here in the east. Don't have much time with full & part time jobs, wife and 3 kids. So a lot of my hunting is scouting and hunting in 1 or 2 day trips.
