Lost one of the greats!!!

Very sad to find out Larry Benoit died back in Oct at 89 yrs old. Not sure if this was discussed on here before. I have always enjoyed reading his books.

 

“Mister,” he wrote, “if you aren’t in shape to dog a mountain buck and follow him for 15 miles, then walk out of the woods and be ready to do it the next day, and maybe the day after, and maybe for a week, then just be an armchair buck hunter. Don’t go out in the woods and kill yourself.”

Yes this topic was on here before but I do agree he was one of the great ones and will be missed by many.He was a true woodsman.

I tracked a huge set of tracks about a mile the other day before it went off into the neighbors property, through a foot of snow and almost died from exhaustion. I couldnt imagine tracking in Adirondack snow for weeks on end.

We got to do quite a bit of tracking this year, it always impresses me how far a buck can travel in a short amount of time with out ever slowing down.

 

I hope tracking doesn't die with Larry, I love it and am happiest when doing it compared to other styles of hunting.
