Well that's odd

Cleaning my gobbler from this morning and noticed a couple strange feathers in his tail fan. The two central feathers have banding at the base that looks like what you would see on the wings. Pretty sure I've never seen that before.

That's one of them wing- tailed turkeys, LOL.

All the birds i hunt have that in the middle fan feathers. Its a genetic thing. Seems like the older the bird, the more pronounced it is. I guess its just passed down among the birds i hunt. The one I got yesterday had it, and the two last season both had it.

I've seen it frequently on birds here in Steuben Co.

 

The fan ( from a 2 year old) that I use for my Pretty Boy gobbler deke has one central feather like  that.
