G-Man
After last years bumber crop of hard mast, and knowing the cyclical nature of nut trees. I decided to go with more winter nutrition, 3 fields of corn..3acres,6 acres, and 1 acre. 1 acre of purple top turnips, 1 acres of imperial whitetail clover, 1/2 acre of howden pumpkins(some for halloween:) ) ,1/2 cow peas, and 1 acre of shorgum/cowpeas/sunflower mix. took 3 long days but all in the ground and i'm ready to sit back and watch them grow
Meat Manager
Are you using regular grain sorghum or WGF with those peas? I'm planting the WGF/peas combo in a few weeks. Meat Manager
Its a mix from the nwtf..I'd assume WGF then...I guess you'll know if it grows as tall as corn.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
G-Man
It will never make it that tall deer pull it when its 6-12in tall... damn fuzzy rats with long legs eat everything...
Meat Manager
Man I was just feeling envious of your nutritional plots when the landowner of my lease called. He asked if I "minded" if a farmer friend of his uses the 4 acre empty field at the west boundary that I left out of my lease to plant corn... I said...uh, yeah, can I hunt over it? "Oh yeah, just you." I said that'll be more than fine. Now my deer have a corn alternative "on" my property as opposed to the adjacent farm lot with all the north boundary wall tree stands. Moreover I've got nearly 20% of my acreage in corn and 3-5% on 3 smaller interior kill plots. I'm loving those ratios. Fingers crossed for good weather throughout the growing season! G-Man
I started with.an Acre of corn..it lasted.2 Weeks... 9 acres can last 3-5 months which is what i want it for winter food source. Of course that's taking 18- 21 deer off the property a year 10 have to be adult doe... or it wouldn't be enough.

Let me know if you ever need any help with doe removal, ha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited May 30, 2014 by Meat Manager
