Changing Forend For Mossberg 500

???  I've been trying to change the forend on my Mossberg 500. It came with  wood forend, but I'm trying to replace it with the black hawk recoil stock & forend. I removed the action slide tube nut and according to various websites and tutorials, it's supposed to slide right out, but mine doesn't.

Am I missing something?

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

I assume you have removed the entire forearm slide assembly from the shotgun.  If you have also removed the ring type nut on the front of the forearm, it should slide off the metal tube that is the slide itself. 

If it is tight, it's easier the work it off when you have the whole assembly removed from the shotgun.  A little lubricant sprayed into the assembly between the wood and the metal may help.

There are no other screws or nuts involved that would prevent it from coming off.

Thanks for the advice.  No, I never removed the entire assembly.  The metal tube was still attached to the gun.  I'll give it a try sometime this week.

You will need to push out two pins that hold the trigger assembly in.  Then remove the trigger assembly.  You will the see if you move the slide a little you can remove the bolt and the plate that rides in it's bottom.  Then you can slide the whole forearm assembly forward and off the magazine tube.

Try to remember how it all goes back together though and don't force anything lest you bend or break something.

A good thing about a Mossberg 500, it's like a Lego gun that can easily be taken apart without tools by any gun owner.  It should be just as easy to put back together if you pay careful attention to taking it apart.

If the o nut at the top of the forend is off.The forend should slide off.I don't think you have to take the slide off the gun.This might be a dumb question but you did remove the barrel first?

I called Mossberg tech support and they helped me out.  For anyone else who may come across this problem in the future.  The forend is secured tight so it won't just slide off with bare hands.  You have to smack it off with a soft hammer.  I used a rubber soft hammer as to not damage the wood and used a bunch of light taps.  Thanks for the help, all.

My Mossberg 500 with a Blackhawk Recoil Stock and Forend.  I am going to put the wood forend back.  I know.  It's going to look weird with a wood forend and a black synthetic stock but I really don't like how the Blackhawk forend looks or sits.  It'll just be until I find a better forend.

If your not happy with the forend,send it back and try another one.Its worth a shot.

I have a pistol grip stock and a vertical handle forend form my 500. They looked great installed, but I didn't really like the feel of the gun with them, so I went back to the wood as well..  I just keep the 18" cyl barrel on to make handling inside a bit easier, and just want to add a light.. Word of warning when working around the mossy trigger assembly.. Ensure the pins 'holding the works together' never slide or come out.. Its a PIA to re-assemble the trigger group internals, at least for me it was..
