Dog handler question

So I have a red bone coon hound mixed with springer...mom pure redbone dad pure springer.....my dog is good at listening to me comes back we men called lays down when told and plays fetch really really well...he's about a year old....is it to late to train and is there anything else I should look for to see if he will be a decent hunting dog...... really be cool to point coons and maybe even flush some birds for me nothing super serious but fun for both us....any pointers tricks or advise I'd appreciate it

Even if it goes ...well less than the desired effect you will still have spent  tons of quality time with your dog....Win Win... You have a smart stubborn dog   good luck. I have two black and tan coonhounds and two hungarian vizslas. Its great fun to have your dog off leash in the field...Working with my coonhound bitch, teach her to be a deer search dog...It will be nice to have a fresh hide for her.

I honestly thought about that too...be nice to have one if needed....I'm gonna try some walks In woods see how thay goes bc he's never been out there....
