I GOOGLEd Pheasant Release dates New York and it only gave me release sites .

Albany County

• Berne - Partridge Run WMA - See maps at all informational kiosks. (YH, RS)
• Knox - Margaret Burke WMA - west side of County Route 254. (YH, RS)
• New Scotland - West side of Diamond Hill Rd. north of Clipp Rd. (RS)

Call the DEC and they should have the answer

FYI,

I spoke to the DEC Reg 4 office.  In general Pheasants are released once a week on the Published Lands beginning in late September through early November.

Well the season isn't the same across the state so I wouldn't be surprised. I am surprised that they go through the effort so early, even before the season opens. Release a number for the youth season sure. I wonder how many are taken out from predation even before the season starts?

All I know is that they must release them a lot over the winter. I can't go one car ride through partridge run without almost hitting one on the way home. They are everywhere along sickle hill rd. Some even survived the winter last year and saw some chicks. The best spot, where I see the most pheasants, are right at the beginning of high point rd off sickle hill rd.

Saw a couple of them survive into Spring Turkey season last year..

Has any been to stewart lately? I went the last week of December went through 6 fields on maple and Barron road only got on one scent trail with my dog

I went out on last Saturday in December, just me, no dog.  Hit a large field on Barron and saw a couple others with dogs on New Road - not one shot in that area.

 

I may try Sterling this weekend. 

Anyone have any success there lately?

Diplomat has it right.  The DEC dumps the birds by the hundreds until October then they're left to fend for themselves.  Here in Region 5 we're lucky to see any survivors on public land that last into December.

your seeing them now?  I'm actually thinking about heading up there this weekend for a little hunt.  small game with my dog.

the guy at Ringneck Preserve told me if he puts them out the night before a hunt the Owls kill most of them by daybreak

I can believe that 100 percent.  It is a rare day afield when I don't flush a big owl at some point. 

 

I'd imagine a rabbit or mouse/vole would be an easier target but nowhere near the same meal.
