Upstate New York Is Becoming Detroit With Grass – Thanks to Years of Democratic Rule

Binghamton, New York — once a powerhouse of industry — is now approaching Detroit in many economic measures, according to the U.S. Census. In Binghamton, more than 31 percent of city residents are at or below the federal poverty level compared to 38 percent in Detroit. Average household income in Binghamton at $30,179 in 2012 barely outpaces Detroit’s $26,955. By some metrics, Binghamton is behind Detroit. Some 45 percent of Binghamton residents own their dwellings while more than 52 percent of Detroit residents are homeowners. Both “Rust Belt” cities have lost more than 2 percent of their populations.

Binghamton is not alone. Upstate New York — that vast 50,000-square mile region north of New York City — seems to be in an economic death spiral.

Drove through there last October. Pretty depressing. It will be a ghost town in 10/15 years.

 

Buffalo is also a zombie city that is 15 years behind Detroit in terms of total collapse. Sooner  if we have that major economic downturn that has been predicted for later this year.

We are so far behind the eight ball it isn't funny. High property taxes and general confiscatory tax rates in NY have killed us. The only way to look at NY anymore is in the rear view mirror.

ask yourself why we have high taxes in NYS.  if you are honest with yourself, you'll concluded both policical parties are to blame.  They both buy votes on your dime.

 

 

NYS is a lost cause.   the only way to save the state is to reform public sector unions (pensions..raise retirement/ collection age to that of  social security!), cut back public benefits to those unwiling to work and make 100% of the residences pay some taxes, once they have skin in the game they will call for responsible spending.

You should see all the empty store fronts in Auburn. The Fingerlakes Mall is a ghost town.
