Caveman
Does anyone have any experience with water-based speed dips vs traditional powder dye? Speed dip seems suspiciously convenient. I'm wondering if there is a catch.
ants
I dyed an old faded camo jacket last year. It was originally dark brown and black camo. It had faded to about the color of peanut butter. I used RIT? I think that was the name. Liquid dark brown dye. It worked great. I just followed the instructions. Don't use the washing machine method. It doesn't work half as good.
Caveman
Sorry, Ants. I meant dying traps. My washing machine is brand new. I'm not sure Mrs. Wildcats160 would appreciate me tumbling 50 pounds of steel traps around in it lol.
wdswtr
All I ever used was black walnut husks, until I tried the speed dip. I went back to walnut husks and never looked back. Was not pleased with the results and color seem to wear off to fast.
G-Man
The speed ups work but color doesn't last,, kerosene and speed black only seemed to last if I waxed the traps within a day or two.black walnut hulls and a barrel seem to be they way to make it last, although I did always want to try to brown my traps like an old muzzleloader barrel , the chemicals for that were cost prohivitive. Kludes
Buy log wood crystals best option... walnut hulls I used and used and squirrels and chipmunks would find my traps or dig them out ...
