I was in Ireland last week, the country is gearing up for the big anniversary. It's all over Dublin. I stopped in at the GPO, general post office, to see the memorial. Very moving.

Another shot of O'Connell st. After 6 days of heavy fighting, most of these buildings were destroyed.

This brings to mind a favorite poem recited by an elderly lady of Irish descent who was a friend of mine and passed away just a few years ago.

" Ireland was Ireland when England was just a pup,

and Ireland will be Ireland when England is all washed up.

Well I'm an Irish Catholic and I go to Sunday Mass,

And every English son of a bitch can kiss my Irish ass.."
