Downy woodpeckers at hummingbird feeder

Sorta neat IMO. Brother has been routinely seeing a pair of downy's at his hummingbird feeder. Feeder is no more than 5 feet from his chair on porch. Drought effecting bugs in trees resulting in them seeking nutrients in the syrup ? We have no idea. At the moment I'm watching a pair of hummers hitting our feeder and bee balm

I'm sure the drought this year has something to do with it. My folks have a bunch of of hummer-feeders that are regularly being raided by various birds, squirrels, and even deer! My Mom's b-day is next weekend, and I bought her a nice bird bath for their yard.

Constantly filling our birdbath . Had catbird ,sparrow , Robin and gold finch in it while I was on deck this morning.

My wife just adores hummingbirds! She has me make sure the feeders are full, clean and numerous for "her" hummingbirds. Gotta say, I enjoy watching them too.

Heard one peep peep before I noticed him at feeder today.  Usually hear them buzz before seeing them.
