stoneam2006
Thats what i call hunting at this point in my hunting life. Find them and go get them on thier turf and not settle for less. Equal or bigger yes but not less...Does are a givin and dont even really come into the picture here.Shoot I wish I could have standards like that down here in so tier...bucks just don't survive down here bc there are no doe tags...I have 3 pp and got denied today...almost guarantees me on next year but still. Anything with horns is shot bc that's all we have to shoot...In the last 3 years if I see 1 or 2 bucks a season I'm doing good alot of guys sit all year without seeing anything legal to shoot. Luckily I hunt fingerlakes so it opens up doe hunting for me as well ass archery and ml. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Big John
I pick the buck ONLY if he is alone or if he is bigger than the Doe.

I will say FSW, our target bucks are not all equal so its possible and even likely that the 3 year old I may shoot before seeing our biggest target is settling for something less, but it would make the target list in any event if I knew about it. Two years ago I passed a lot of little guys in bow and never shot a buck just because I never had a shooter come by. turkeyfeathers
Update since my first post. After getting a few nice bucks on cams we won't wait but still nice to know what's around . That crotch 4 I have a pic of will be a trophy for my daughters first deer but hoping one of the 8's show up. I'm now addicted to my cams after never really using them before. So I bought another today lol.
dbHunterNY
on some other properties I have a 3 yr old age minimum or I have to at least have reason to believe he's a 3.5+ yr old. on the family farm that's apart of the co-op I help manage it's a different world. I'll pick the top two bucks I've seen there in the area. they're usually the bigger antlers. definitely most dominant and oldest. i've only had it once where i've seen them both at the same time sizing each other up. they usually end up occupying different space on the farm. I always seem behind on trail cams and we're setup well to long range glass. I shot last years buck the way you describe with glass at distance followed by a bow and my climber. I don't live there anymore so I have to intentionally scout. I'm not getting sightings by just being around to see them, while doing whatever. There are bigger there than here and thats why i go there. I drive 3 hours one way about 8-10 times a year. If what you say is true in your area i sure would not be hunting there. You cant be 3 hours from the state lands i hunt and i can promise ya that if you know whitetails and how to hunt you will have many chances at all the doe tags you can get and a shot a probably one of the biggest bucks in your life. All depends what you want to give and get.

But most landowners kill anything and I do to so they don't live long and doe tags are scarceSent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
