Which choke tube

Back in lead shot days I never used shot any HEAVIER than #4  and often used #6  or 7 1/2 shot  on puddlers... Velocity did not seem to matter much...Standard velocity field loads worked fine.

Steel is a whole different game..I never use any steel SMALLER than #2  and the higher velocity the better.

I have had by far the best luck with an IC tube in a single barrel gun, although I have also done well with IC/Mod  in my O/U....

My favorite load in my 12 gauge 3" guns is Kent Fasteel ( 1 1/8oz.)  with #2 shot for ducks and BB shot for honkers...

Really late to this but I run a improved modified and like to run 2 or 3 shot for mallard sized ducks. I like an even but tighter pattern and the ducks I hit this year haven't flinched after hitting the ground. The best way to know exactly is to pattern your gun. My weatherby/back up loaner gun patterns extremely tight with a modified choke and black cloud 2's but my Franchi Affinity gives me my "perfect pattern" from 0-30 yards with the improved modified which is a tighter constriction. Depending on the Gun/choke/load/shooter patterns can vary drastically.
