NY Deer Euthanized in NJ

A buddy of mine sent me article regarding a tagged deer from Staten Island ending up in NJ.  NJ wildlife officials euthanized the animal because they feared it may have CWD.  I know it is "only" one deer but could they have tested it and released it  if it was not infected.

They could have released it but they would rather shoot it.  CWD is a big issue but killing one deer will basically do nothing.  If they had any clue on how many deer actually travel in and out of the state they would probably post snipers on the boarder.  The deer was leaving his home range for a new one due to new fawns and Mom kicking him out.  He though he would be ok in high populated area's like he was use to, shame.

I believe the only way to get a good test of CWD the deer needs to be dead and brain tissue removed.
