RobC
I'd really like to learn the trade of taxidermy. Thing is I have no idea where to start. I've googled it and can only find schools that are just to far away to even be practical. Is there anyone on this site that does it or knows someone? I'd like to know if there is something like weekend classes or someone who could steer me in the right direction. Thanks for the help. nyantler
your best bet is to contact some local taxidermists and ask if they might let you observe them doing some work.. I just helped a taxidermist friend of mine mount a buck that I took a few years ago... It is actually quite easy if you have the right person to teach you... I was surprised how simple it was... the hard part is getting good at it.. knowing how to set the eyes... tucking the lips... placing the ears.. and sewing up the hide... definitely a "practice makes perfect" kind of hobby... good luck
ELMER J. FUDD
Rob, have you watched "Mounted in Alaska" ? It's on History Channel right now. Reality show about taxidermy. Pretty cool.

G-Man
Contacta local taxidermist and see if he'd be willing to instruct you.. you might have to do some work for him around the shop in trade,or find a local trapper to learn skinning . spliting sm game pads, clipping toes, caping without runing eyelids, ears or nose. then you'll have someting to offer a taxidermist to take you on as an apperntice.
