I need 4wd some days to make it in and out of my driveway. 
Out of the vehicles I have tested I like a AWD.
Subaru is not in my budget. I asked a stranger at the store about  his Outback, he loves it and likes the gas mileage but would never feel comfortable going off road with it. 
Tomorrow I am checking out a few more 4wd
Bought my wife a brand new 2017 Impeza . 20k well worth it. We will buy another Subaru when I'm ready for a new car

Rotate the tires every other oil change and they generally will all need to replaced at the same time anyway.

For your situation I believe the obvious answer is a Camaro body on a blazer frame with 4x4.
