i found some 5-6 footers at lowes i am going to buy...

Geno, bought 6 trees from lows about 4 yrs ago. They are getting bigger but the apple production is slow. Bought a variety so they could cross pollinate but have only produced a few apples each year and some trees have not produced anything yet. Hoping this year will be better. Good luck with your trees. Don't buy flowering pear trees they don't produce fruit just flowers.

This is where I just bought 12 bare root apple trees. Bill Pitts is the man to talk to. He has put together a 12 tree package that he calls the sportsman package. They are semi-dwarf and are about 6-7' tall. It is a mix of 6 different veriaties. The trees are free-standing and dont need any stakes to hold them up. I put them in 2 weeks ago and they are looking great! Once i put them in the ground they started to grow there leaves. I am very impressed. Tell Bill his neighbor Adam sent you.

Cummins as noted above is a good option.

I researched a bit before buying a few trees and Cummins is pretty much an authority on apple trees. There is a significant tie between them and Cornell. I think the elder Dr. Cummins created several varieties and root stock for Cornell. He is considered to be a Michael Jordan of the apple world.
