Power Outage Monitors etc.

I figured lots of folks around here probably have remote camps, cabins, etc.  Do you use any kind of monitor to alert you to power outages or temperature extremes?  I've been doing research, but there's a lot of different kinds.  Any thoughts/preferences?

Cheap and easy.....put a nickel on top of an ice cube in the freezer.  If the nickel is at the bottom of the cube the next time you go back, you will know power has been off long enough to melt the ice and then re-freeze.  When that happens, we toss everything.   (Except the beer!)

We run solar,  so this is not a concern.
